When you’re a newborn, everyone becomes an expert… especially big brothers. 👀🩵
Here, Nana (aka Tina) is performing a little cord care under the very close supervision of Baby Brother’s biggest fans. 🥰
A newborn’s umbilical cord stump typically takes 7–10 days to dry up and fall off on its own. During this time:
✨ Keep the area clean and dry
✨ Stick to sponge baths and avoid soaking the cord
✨ Fold the diaper down below the stump when possible to allow airflow
If the cord gets wet, you may notice it becomes sticky or a little stinky. To clean it:
1️⃣ Use a damp Q-tip and gently roll around the base of the cord to collect any moisture or debris.
2️⃣ Follow with a dry Q-tip to remove excess moisture and help keep the area dry.
Contact your healthcare provider if you notice:
🔴 Redness spreading onto the skin around the cord
🔴 Swelling or warmth
🔴 Pus-like drainage
🔴 A foul odor that doesn’t improve with cleaning
Newborn care truly takes a village—and sometimes that village includes two very dedicated quality-control inspectors. 🩵🩵
