โ€œAt Kelowna Mercedes-Benz, community means more than where we do business. It means contributing to the people and causes that make it stronger. Through the Sentes OurCommunity Committee, we are proud to support the organizations that are meaningful to our employees and make a genuine difference close to home.

The Central Okanagan Hospice Association provides an extraordinary level of compassion, care and support to individuals and families during some of life's most difficult moments. Our team deeply values the work they do in our community and are proud to support their continued impact in the Okanaganโ€, shared Pamela Pearson, Director of Internal Operations.

At COHA we value and appreciate corporate supporters like Kelowna Mercedes-Benz for bringing together people, compassion and connection to help others. Thank you for your generosity and trust in the work we do together.

Meet Madeleine.

She was 12 years old when her Grammy died. They were very close. Around the same time her parents separated and her mom started noticing emotional struggles and mood swings she didn't know how to reach.

Madeleine was carrying a lot for someone so young.

At COHA she found somewhere safe to put it all. Grief group. Horse Whisperer Camp. Family Expressive Arts Night. Spaces to openly express her grief and her fears without having to be okay.

Her mom noticed the difference. Madeleine's mood and behaviour shifted drastically.

And then Madeleine did something that stopped us in our tracks. She wrote us a handwritten letter, reminding us all of why we do this work. It's always for moments like these.

COHA's child and youth grief and bereavement programs are accessed without any financial barriers and are confidential for ages 5 to 19.

Anyone can make a referral by calling Andi, Bereavement Services Coordinator, ๏ฟผat 250.763.5511.

You don't have to do this alone. ๐Ÿ’œ

Finding the door marked "COHA August Centre" was a blessing.

In 2018 Dave H. lost his 19-year-old son Brendan in an ATV accident. He didn't know who COHA was before that day. After that, COHA became the lifeline his family needed to find their way through.

A few years later Dave trained as a wellness volunteer to provide Reiki. Now he provides Reiki for bereaved individuals and for people receiving palliative care at home. He greets others as they find their way through the same door he once walked through.

"Finding the door marked COHA August Centre was a blessing and I consider it a privilege that I now am able to greet others as they find their way through the same door."

School is just around the corner. For some kids this September looks a little different.

When a significant person in a child's life has died or is dying, returning to school can bring up a lot. Grief doesn't take a summer break.

Did you know COHA offers confidential grief and bereavement support for children and youth ages 5 to 19? Did you know that access to services come without financial barriers?

๐Ÿ’œ Anticipatory Grief Support

We are proud to work alongside Central Okanagan Public Schools to ensure students have access to compassionate support before, during, and after the school day. As District Principal Sherri Roche puts it: grief impacts learning, well-being, and connection. Partnerships like this ensure that no one has to navigate that experience alone.

Standing Together in Our Community

As wildfires continue to impact communities across the Okanagan, we extend our deepest gratitude to the first responders, emergency personnel, professionals, businesses, charities, and volunteers who are working tirelessly to protect and support our communities.

To those who have been evacuated, displaced, or are facing uncertainty, we stand with you. We recognize that loss during a wildfire can take many forms: the loss of a home or belongings, the disruption of daily life, separation from community, or simply the loss of a sense of safety and certainty.

At Central Okanagan Hospice Association, we believe grief is a collective. In difficult moments, we are reminded that community matters. that we carry uncertainty, loss and hope together.

To everyone opening their doors, offering resources, caring for neighbours, protecting our communities, and showing up wherever they are needed, WE THANK YOU.

To all those impacted by the wildfires, our thoughts are with you. We stand united with our Okanagan community, today and in the days ahead.

For years Linda was estranged from her family.

She never imagined they would reconnect.

With the compassionate support of COHA she found the courage to reach out.

"Because of that support I was able to spend these last few months surrounded by the people I love and this brings me a sense of peace I never thought possible."

Happy BC Day from all of us at COHA. ๐Ÿ”๏ธ

Today we celebrate the province we call home and the communities that make it such a beautiful place to live.

In the Central Okanagan we are lucky to have neighbours who show up for one another during life's hardest moments.
That is what COHA is built on. Community. Compassion. And the belief that no one should have to navigate grief or death alone.

Enjoy the long weekend. We are grateful to be part of this community with you.
