Nobody hands you an end date when you start hormone therapy, and most women assume that is an oversight.
It is not. There is currently no recommended stop date for hormone therapy. No age you are supposed to come off by. That absence is deliberate. The decision was never meant to run on a clock.
What it runs on is an ongoing risk-benefit conversation. If it is still helping and you want to stay on it, there is currently no guideline telling you to stop. You continue while the benefits outweigh the risks.
The same logic runs the other way. There is no minimum. If you want to come off, you do not owe hormone therapy a set number of years first.
So the useful question was never how long. It is why we started in the first place. That is what tells us whether the reason still stands, and it is the conversation that decides when you stop.
And after the transition, there are often other ways to hold onto some of what hormones were giving you.
DM me if you want to talk through why you started and whether you still want to be on it.
