Big changes are happening at Little Oak!

It is with bitter sweet feelings that I announce that the Main St clinic of Little Oak Wellness will be closing as of October 31st. As this season comes to an end, I can't help but feel grateful for all the love and support I have recieved from my team, our patient's, and our community. I feel so blessed by the opportunities this time has given me; for serving patients, for building community, and for personal growth.

We might be closing the doors to the Main St Clinic, but we are still here. I will continue to see my patients at a new location as a sole practitioner and the rest of the team will be in various locations around town. As of Nov 3rd, all patients of Dr. Cindl Coulson, ND will now be seen at 106A 5th Ave S.

I am grateful to be able to take the time to rest, reset and focus on my family, my faith, and my patients.

Please continue to use [email protected], 807-468-9355 and littleoakwellness.ca to book with Dr. Cindl Coulson, ND.
For all other services, please contact your provider directly.

As Mother’s Day passes, we couldn’t think of a better time to have a chat about pelvic floor dysfunction (PFD) and how physiotherapy can help both women AND men experiencing this fairly common condition.

The pelvic floor is a collection of muscles, nerves and connective tissue that work together to support the bladder, bowels and reproductive organs inside the lower abdomen. When this support system doesn’t work properly (e.g. muscle weakness), it can cause a variety of symptoms.

Risk factors for developing PFD include:

• Pregnancy & childbirth
• Hormonal changes related to menopause
• Older age
• Elevated Body Mass Index (BMI)
• Previous surgeries (e.g. hysterectomy or prostatectomy)
• Pre-existing health conditions (e.g. connective tissue disorders, diabetes, fibromyalgia)
• Chronic coughing or constipation
• Frequent heavy lifting at work or during exercise

Pelvic floor physiotherapy might be worth a try if one or more of the following apply to you:

✔︎ Pregnancy or recent childbirth
✔︎ Urinary or bowel “leaks”
✔︎ Urinary frequency
✔︎ Pelvic/hip/low back pain
✔︎ Pelvic organ prolapse (vaginal bulge)
✔︎ Painful in*******se or sexual dysfunction (e.g. erectile dysfunction)

Visit us online to learn more about pelvic floor physiotherapy and what you can expect during your session. To book an appointment with Sam, our physiotherapist, visit us online or give us a call at (807) 468-9355. 🌳

What IS a Chiropodist? Glad you asked. 😉

Andrea is our everything-related-to-feet expert. She is well-known within our community and is soon to be the only practising Chiropodist in Kenora. After 15 years of providing care to patients in the public sector, she moved into private practice at Little Oak Wellness in 2022. Andrea also continues to work with clients at Waasegiizhig Nanaandawe’iyewigamig (WNHAC) and the Lake of the Woods District Hospital’s complex wound team.

Chiropodists are specialized practitioners trained in diagnosing & treating foot and ankle issues such as ingrown toenails, infections, deformities, diabetic foot ulcers, chronic ankle pain and plantar fasciitis. Services include nail & skin care, pain management, footwear assessment, custom orthotics and minor in-office surgical procedures.

At LOW 🌳 our team takes a holistic approach to providing care, which means our providers have you covered from head to toe (and Andrea is toe-tally amazing at helping her clients put their best foot🦶forward).

To book a Chiropody appointment, call us at (807) 468-9355 or email [email protected].

Meet Sarah, our Psychotherapist. 👋

With 25 years of experience in social services and a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology, she brings a compassionate and collaborative approach to therapy. She believes healing comes from within and that there is a strong connection between body and mind. Sarah strives to create a safe and supportive space where clients can explore their experiences, gain insight and foster meaningful change. She understands the importance of a strong therapeutic relationship and that genuine healing happens when clients feel truly seen, heard and supported.

Psychotherapy primarily uses talk-based therapies to help people improve and maintain their mental health and wellbeing. It often focuses on long-term, deeper exploration of underlying issues and personal growth. One of the techniques Sarah uses to support deep healing related to trauma is called Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), which helps clients process painful experiences and develop a greater sense of internal safety and balance.

At Little Oak Wellness, our interdisciplinary model of care exists because we understand the importance of addressing all aspects of health simultaneously, including both physical and psychological. Often we see one treated without acknowledging the other and that can prolong or prevent healing.

To book an appointment with Sarah, visit us online or give us a call at (807) 468-9355. 🌳

It’s been a minute, so we’re re-introducing our 🌳 team members and welcoming some new additions!

First up… Samantha (Sam), our Physiotherapist.

Sam grew up in a very physically active and health-oriented family. Following in her parent’s athletic footsteps, she grew up as a gymnast where she competed at the national level. Unfortunately, her gymnastics career was cut short due to an ACL tear in her knee at age 13. Frequent physiotherapy visits during this time sparked her interest in pursuing it as a career.

“𝘐 𝘬𝘯𝘰𝘸 𝘧𝘪𝘳𝘴𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘩𝘰𝘸 𝘧𝘳𝘶𝘴𝘵𝘳𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘪𝘯𝘫𝘶𝘳𝘪𝘦𝘴 𝘤𝘢𝘯 𝘣𝘦 𝘰𝘯 𝘯𝘰𝘵 𝘰𝘯𝘭𝘺 𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘱𝘩𝘺𝘴𝘪𝘤𝘢𝘭 𝘩𝘦𝘢𝘭𝘵𝘩 𝘣𝘶𝘵 𝘰𝘯 𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘢𝘭 𝘩𝘦𝘢𝘭𝘵𝘩 𝘢𝘴 𝘸𝘦𝘭𝘭. 𝘐 𝘫𝘶𝘴𝘵 𝘸𝘢𝘯𝘵 𝘵𝘰 𝘩𝘦𝘭𝘱 𝘱𝘦𝘰𝘱𝘭𝘦 𝘨𝘦𝘵 𝘣𝘢𝘤𝘬 𝘵𝘰 𝘥𝘰𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘸𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘺 𝘭𝘰𝘷𝘦 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘐 𝘵𝘳𝘶𝘭𝘺 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘬 𝘦𝘹𝘦𝘳𝘤𝘪𝘴𝘦 𝘪𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘣𝘦𝘴𝘵 𝘮𝘦𝘥𝘪𝘤𝘪𝘯𝘦.”

Sam is certified in acupuncture and has a special interest in pelvic floor physiotherapy (more to come about both of these services). She provides assessments for WSIB and HCAI (Health Claims for Auto Insurance) cases. She also coaches locally at Elevate Gymnastics.

To find out more about Sam and/or book an appointment with her (no referral required), visit us at littleoakwellness.ca. 🌳
