In February 2026, Dr Chatten and her Husband Rich, who also works at Kimberley Vision care, volunteered on a mission to the Philippines with . As part of a team of 33 international Optometrists and Assistants they treated 4,479 patients, dispensed 3,478 prescription eyeglasses, and provided low vision aids to those in need.

One specific patient they treated was a 16 year old boy who had a prescription of -20.00 which means he functionally blind without eyeglasses. This young boy was unable to do his homework and had never seen his Mom's face before. The team were able to make a set of glasses to improve his quality of life immensely and he finally got to see his Mom's face for the first time ever.

We're so proud of our Doctor Chatten and Husband Rich for volunteering their skills and time to help people in who really need and appreciate their care. Many of the glasses you donate to us here at Kimberley Vision Care were used to treat these people - so we really appreciate all the glasses you give to use throughout the year! We continue to accept your unused glasses for this cause and thank for organizing such a fantastic mission.

Dr. Christine Chatten, owner of Kimberley Vision Care, has been meeting the optical needs of Kimberley, BC, since 1996 - we know, she doesn't look old enough!!!

Outside of optometry Dr. Chatten loves to travel, hike and camp. After graduating Pacific University in Forest Grove, OR, she worked in Salmon Arm and Vernon. When the Deer Park lease became available there was no hesitation to move back to the Kootenays. Her love for the outdoors and the people of Kimberley make it an easy choice to move back and start a family and start her own practice!

Quick facts about Christine:
☕️ Her go-to coffee order is a skinny vanilla latte.
🐖 Christine squeals in delight for pigs! Herself and husband Rich were lucky to travel to the Bahama's to swim with them.
💛 Her little white Lab is called Maylee and has been her faithful companion for 3 years.

Dr Chatten is extremely passionate about what she does, always paying careful consideration to her patients’ needs along with hard work. Show her your love! 🥰
