Wildfire Smoke Affecting Air Quality in Our Area
You may notice hazy skies, reduced visibility, or the smell of smoke today. There are no local wildfires causing these conditions. Smoke from wildfires burning in northwestern Ontario has travelled into our region, resulting in very poor air quality across the Municipality of Kincardine and surrounding areas.
Environment Canada has issued a High Impact Air Quality Alert for Saugeen Shores – Kincardine – Southern Bruce County. Conditions may improve Friday morning, but residents are encouraged to continue monitoring updates. https://weather.gc.ca/en/location/index.html?coords=44.169,-81.635
➡️ During heavy smoke conditions:
• Limit time outdoors and consider rescheduling outdoor activities, sports, and events.
• Avoid strenuous outdoor activities, especially if you are more likely to be impacted by wildfire smoke.
• Keep windows and doors closed as much as possible.
• Check in on older adults, young children, pregnant people, and anyone with existing health conditions.
• If you must be outdoors, a well-fitted N95 or equivalent respirator can help reduce exposure to smoke particles.
