How does this quote sit with you?

For me, it moves us away from perceiving boundaries as "walls" or "hard lines in the sand" toward the spaciousness that helps preserve connection in our relationships with others and with ourselves.

I’d love to hear your thoughts too.

Some other things to ponder...

✨How does your body signal to you that a boundary has been crossed, perhaps even before your mind registers it?

✨What does finding that spaciousness look like for you right now? Does it involve creating boundaries around your time, effort, emotional investment, level of responsibility...?

✨How does it feel in your body when your boundaries are respected and honoured by others? How does it feel when you honour your own boundaries?

When we talk about perimenopause and menopause, the conversation often focuses a lot on physical symptoms. We talk about hot flashes, sleepless nights, and the frustration of joint pain or sudden fatigue.

But there is another aspect to this conversation that I would like to honour as well: the sometimes overwhelming psychological, emotional, and identity shifts that can accompany this midlife period.

Many women find themselves experiencing sudden, unexpected spikes in anxiety, deep bouts of irritability, or a persistent brain fog that makes them feel like strangers to themselves. At the exact same time, life may be shifting structurally around us. We might be experiencing the quiet of an empty nest, re-evaluating our careers, caring for aging parents, or realizing that the relationships we’ve poured into for decades need new boundaries.

It is a season of profound letting go. But it is also an invitation.

To navigate this season in life, it can help to have someone holding a soft presence as you unpack what is unfolding. As someone who is experiencing these shifts in real-time, I feel deep commitment to walking beside women through this period of life.

I recently underwent training with Wilfrid Laurier University on Counselling Women through Menopause. This course provided foundational information that I will build on with further trainings. It has sparked a deeper sense of curiosity in me about the supports, tools, and information available for women experiencing these shifts.

If you are curious about working together, I offer a complimentary meeting for us to explore our connection.

Therapy is deeply relational. Research consistently shows that the bond between you and your therapist is one of the most important factors in whether the process has positive outcomes for you. So, if you are considering therapy, I encourage you to meet with several therapists and listen to your intuition as you do. You could explore if you feel heard, respected, and safe when you are in their presence. These are all important aspects of a healthy therapeutic relationship.

In kindness,
Sarah

We love our purple irises! They're likely more than 50 years old. And they're a way for us to stay connected to the memory of Jocelyne Leyton-Matthews - a beautiful woman and excellent Osteopathic Manual Practitioner. For Jocelyne, these flowers connected her to the memory of her mother. (Flowers can bring such unexpected joys in our lives.)

I believe healing is most effective when we honour the whole self—mind, body, heart, and spirit. As a previous teacher, entrepreneur, and energy work practitioner, my therapeutic style is grounded in person-centered, humanistic, and somatic-based modalities.

I welcome adults (18+) who are seeking a gentle therapeutic space to explore their goals at their own pace. I honour the wisdom and resilience each person brings to this process. My goal is to come alongside you, maintaining a stable presence, to support you in your emotional processing and personal discovery.

To support your healing, we can explore mindfulness-based techniques alongside practical stress management and self-care. Following the pace you set, we can go beneath the surface to understand your feelings more deeply, while nurturing a sense of groundedness and resilience. I hold open, non-judgmental space and invite you to come to each session just as you are✨

It is an honour to practice under the guidance and expertise of my supervisor, Jennifer Maleus, RP. I am also grateful for Dr. Sonya Nobbe, ND, and the team at Kingston Integrated Healthcare Inc., for welcoming me warmly as their newest colleague. The holistic, integrative and compassionate work that is carried out by the KIHC team is strongly aligned with my understanding of health and healing and is a similar philosophy of care to what we offered at We Thrive Wellness Centre✨

I offer sessions via secure online video (via JaneApp) or in-person at KIHC in Kingston, Ontario. Please visit the website below to view availability and learn more.

Sarah

All across Canada, it's Naturopathic Medicine Week! It's a time to reflect on the many healthcare approaches available to us and the impact of our environment on our health. It's a time to celebrate how far this small profession has come (about 3000 NDs in Canada), and to be reminded of the work ahead of us, for true integration into our Canadian healthcare system.
