A backpack can fit well and still be too heavy.

A recommended guideline used by pediatric and spine health groups is to keep a loaded backpack no more than 10-15% of the child’s body weight.

Child's Backpack
Weight Weight
48lbs ---------------> 7lbs
58lbs ---------------> 9lbs
76lbs ---------------> 11lbs

If needed have your little carry their lunch pail or water bottle to help keep the weight from an over filled backpack to cause a strain on the child's spine.

Kids are famous for carrying last week’s worksheet, three library books, a half-finished craft, and a rock they found at recess. No judgement. It happens. That’s where the daily clean-out helps.

Try a quick “Sunday reset” or a two-minute check before school:

✨ Take out old papers.
✨ Remove books that don’t need to travel.
✨ Empty extra toys, rocks, and random objects.
✨ Refill only what’s needed for the next day.
✨ Keep heavier items closest to the back.

Heavy items packed far away from the spine pull the body backward. When heavier books or devices sit close to the back panel, the load feels more stable.

Teachers can help too. When possible, giving students a place to keep indoor shoes, extra supplies, or extra books at school can make a noticeable difference. Even small changes help when repeated throughout the week.

When it comes to kids backpacks here are a few tips to help keep your little safe! 🎒

💙 Be sure to use BOTH straps when using a backpack, one strap over the shoulder can cause strain on the child's spine
💛 Use chest/waist belt straps. This will help distribute the weight evenly causing less strain on the child spine
🩵 Adjust shoulder straps so that the backpack fits closely to child's upper back. To ensure a proper fit make sure the backpack doesn't extend over the shoulders, or below the top of the hips, the bag should be no wider than the child’s torso
💛 Only pack what is needed. A filled bag should weigh no more than 10-15% of child's weight

Kids are still growing. Their bones, joints, muscles, and posture habits are developing year by year. A backpack that hangs too low, pulls backward, or forces them to lean forward can change how they move.

A bag that’s too large often creates three problems:

🙁 It encourages overpacking because there’s more room to fill.
🙁 It sits too low on the back, which pulls on the shoulders and upper spine.
🙁 It shifts around more, so the child uses extra muscle effort to keep it steady.

That doesn’t mean one heavy day will ruin a child’s back. Bodies are resilient. But if a child carries a poor-fitting backpack day after day, the strain can show up as headaches, neck tension, shoulder soreness, mid-back pain, or low-back discomfort.

A simple backpack fit test at home that takes less than five minutes:

💙 Pack the bag the way it’s usually packed for school.
💛 Have the child put it on using both straps.
🩵 Tighten the straps so the bag sits high and close.
💛 Check that the bottom sits near the waist.

Ask the child to walk across the room. Now watch.

Do they lean forward? Do they shrug their shoulders? Does the bag swing side to side? Do they complain right away?

If yes, try lightening the load, adjusting the straps, or switching to a smaller backpack. Sometimes the fix is simple.

Back-to-school season is just around the corner! 🍎

Choosing the right backpack can make a big difference in keeping your little one comfortable and helping reduce unnecessary strain on their growing body.

Here are a few things to look for:

✔️ Wide, padded shoulder straps to help distribute weight more comfortably.

✔️ A chest and/or waist strap and be sure to use it! These straps help spread the load more evenly and can reduce strain on your child's back.

✔️ A padded back panel for added comfort and support throughout the school day.

A properly fitted backpack should sit snugly against the back and shouldn't weigh more than about 10–15% of your child's body weight.

Choosing the right backpack can help your child start the school year off comfortably and confidently! 💙

Supporting moms and babies is something we love! 💙

Chiropractic Care can help support you with breastfeeding and latch in general whether bottle or breastfed.

Feeding struggles are not always because of a tongue tie. Other things that impact your babies feeding include:

> Rhythm of the tongue
> Movement and tension of the neck, jaw and cranial bones
> Shape of the Palate

With our special interest in pediatrics, our assessment of your baby is very thorough. This allows us to detect any tension or stress on your baby so we may then create a plan of care.

Gentle adjustments stimulate their nervous system, allowing their bodies to accelerate healing from within. The most common side effects to infant care is a long nap, a massive p**p, BETTER FEEDING, and extra snuggling.💛

With a location in Kingston and Shannonville to help serve you better, see the link in our bio to get your little one in for an initial assessment!

Every breast feeding journey is unique, and so is the perfect feeding position. 🩵

✨ Cradle Hold - A classic position where baby's head rests in the crook of your arm on the same side.

✨ Tandem - Great for nursing twins or two siblings, one baby on each side at the same time.

✨ Football Hold - Baby is tucked under your arm like a football-ideal after cesarean or for large breasts.

✨ Side Laying - Lie on your side with baby facing you-perfect for rest and nighttime feeds.

✨ Cross Cradle - Support baby's head with the opposite hand for extra control and a deep latch.

✨ Laid Back - Recline comfortably with baby on your chest- let gravity do the work.

Try different holds to find what feels most comfortable for you and your little. Comfort leads to confidence, one feed at a time.

Our chiropractors would recommend while nursing you support your body by using pillows or reclining for ideal posture and maximum comfort.

Your journey matters and we are here to support you, both in our practice and in guidance to community based services. 💛

Round Ligament Release During Pregnancy 🤰💛

As your baby grows, your body changes in incredible ways. One of the most common causes of discomfort during pregnancy is tension in the Round Ligaments- the supportive ligaments that help hold your uterus in place.

Many moms experience:
🤍 Sharp or pulling pain in the lower belly or groin
🤍 Discomfort when rolling over in bed
🤍 Pain when standing up, walking, coughing, or changing positions

As part of the Webster Technique, a chiropractor who cares for pregnant women may asses and gently release the tension in the round ligaments when appropriate. The goal is to help reduce stress on the pelvis and surrounding muscles and ligaments, encouraging improved comfort and balanced pelvic function during pregnancy.

At ForeverYoung Chiropractic, Drs. Jason, Rebecca, and Morgan are Webster Technique certified and have advanced training in prenatal chiropractic care. Every visit is tailored to you and your growing baby.

We are here to help you:
🩵 Feel more comfortable
🩵 Move with greater ease
🩵 Have support for your body throughout pregnancy
