Thanksgiving is almost here and while your pies love the heat, your lenses don't! 🦃🥧

When you're cooking or baking, opening a hot oven can expose your glasses to a sudden burst of heat.

Repeated exposure to high or rapid temperature changes can contribute to lens crazing; tiny cracks or a spiderweb-like pattern that can develop in the lens coating. This can occur even if you leave your glasses in the car!

A few simple reminders:
👓 Keep your glasses away from intense heat whenever possible.
🔥 Be mindful when opening a hot oven.
🌡️ Let your lenses cool naturally rather than exposing them to sudden temperature changes.
✨ If you notice tiny cracks or changes in your lenses, stop by and let us take a look.

Today we celebrate Trena who has worked at St. Lawrence Optometry for the last 5 years! But that’s not all - she’s worked in the eyecare industry for 25 years now!

When you don’t see her doing your OCT and other diagnostics you’ll also catch her at the front desk and helping patients choose their eyewear at our Concession Street location. Trena is well known for supplying us with baking she’s whipped up in her kitchen and also has a social life most of us envy (she loves live music!). 📚 With reading week approaching, you may have noticed your eyes might be feeling the pressure after the first little bit of school. If you have, you’re not alone.

Long hours of reading, studying, and staring at screens can leave your eyes feeling tired, dry, blurry or strained. 👀

Use reading week as a chance to give your eyes a little break!

Remember:
👁️ Blink regularly and stay hydrated
🖥️ Keep screens an arms length away
✨ Follow the 20-20-20 rule: every 20 minutes, look 20 feet away for 20 seconds
👓Consider an office lens or blue light coating

As much as we love our furry friends, sometimes those cuddles can leave us with itchy, watery eyes. 👀

Before you rub them, think twice! Rubbing your eyes can irritate them, making redness, itching, and inflammation worse. Frequent or vigorous rubbing can also put unnecessary pressure on the eye and over time, may contribute to changes in the cornea.

Instead, try washing your hands, using a cool compress or speaking with your eye care professional if your eyes are frequently itchy or irritated.
