One of the greatest privileges of being an optometrist is watching my patients grow up 🩵

This is Cash. He first came to see me when he was just 5 years old, and he's been back every year for his routine eye exam ever since. Fast forward 8 years, and he's now a teenager! Over the years, I've loved hearing all about life updates including our chats about raising chickens, and watching him grow into such a kind, respectful, and genuinely wonderful young man.

Annual eye exams are about so much more than updating a prescription. They're an opportunity to monitor healthy visual development, detect eye conditions early, and ensure your eyes are functioning at their very best. Even if your vision seems perfectly fine, yearly exams play an important role in protecting your long-term eye health.

Our hearts are with everyone affected by the devastating wildfires across Northern Ontario. 💛 Thinking of the families, communities, and first responders working tirelessly during this incredibly difficult time.

Even if you’re far from the fires, the smoke and reduced air quality can still affect your eyes. If you struggle with dry eye, allergies, or sensitive eyes, don’t be surprised if your symptoms are worse than usual over the next several days.

A few things that can help:
• Limit time outdoors when air quality is poor.
• Use preservative-free lubricating eye drops more frequently than you normally would.
• Wear sunglasses outside to help reduce wind and smoke exposure.
• Stay well hydrated.
