I help individuals overcome emotional pain and depression, improve interpersonal relationships, and break free of the fears that are limiting their lives. Working together, we examine the root cause of their difficulties, and find positive and practical solutions so that they may live a more fulfilling life.

Repost from .monicavogt

Repost from .donahue.healing Trauma bonding occurs when we go through periods of intense love and excitement with a person followed by any neglect, mistreatment or abuse. There's a cycle of being devalued and then rewarded over and over again. This becomes an especially powerful dynamic between the two individuals because of the strong chemical and hormonal bond that's created. ⁣

If you grew up in a home with some kind of neglect, abuse or other forms of trauma, any unhealed trauma could make us primed to get into similar situations and relationships as adults. ⁣

One reason is that our nervous system is already wired to respond to the up-down cycle in toxic and abusive relationships.⁣

When we get into these relationships, we can find ourselves involved in trauma bonding with another person who is causing us so much pain. And they too have their own pain that they are replicating in the relationship.⁣

We may logically know that this person isn't good for us, we might even plan to leave, but there's a powerful force that seems to keep pulling us back to them. ⁣

There's also a familiarity in the pain, that, for some part of us, might, in fact, feel comfortable. Think of it as the devil you know - there's predictability in the pain and chaos. The chemicals and hormones associated with the relationship patterns and abuse can momentarily feel good. ⁣

In a toxic relationship, there's often a part of us trying to heal from the past. Like a young part of us trying to finally get the other person (originally our caregiver) to see us for you we are, to be able to care for us and protect us in the way we needed to be. ⁣

If you are a woman and have suffered with anxiety or perfectionism most of your life, there might be a better explanation. Have you considered ADHD?

Research shows that ADHD exacts a greater toll on women than it does on men. Clinicians need a different set of tools for diagnosing and treating the disorder across genders — and women deserve a better understanding of how the disorder affects them.
