Today, eleven years since the Truth and Reconciliation Commission's 94 Calls to Action were shared, only 14 have been completed. None of the calls related to healthcare, child wellbeing, and education have been completed.
Particularly as a healthcare organization, Thresholds Homes and Supports recognizes our responsibility in Truth and Reconciliation.
As part of this, staff and clients joined for events in their communities, including Healing of the Seven Generation’s walk in Kitchener, and the community walk in Guelph – to remember the countless children who never returned home and to honour and listen to Survivors, their families, and their communities who continue to be impacted by the atrocities of the Residential School system and colonialism to this day.
We also recognize that Reconciliation must be a priority in every decision we make, and in every program and service we provide, all year long. It is why we continue to prioritize hiring Indigenous staff and building partnerships with Indigenous organizations to provide culturally appropriate care, and why we're so glad to be able to return surplus green space around one of our homes in Guelph to Indigenous community members just last year.
