🍎🍂 Embracing Seasonal Change Through Food & Fall Traditions 🎃
There’s something special about embracing the changing seasons through nourishing foods and seasonal traditions!
In late September, I visited Chudleigh’s Apple Farm and turned freshly picked apples into homemade spiced applesauce. 🍎 Apples are a wonderful source of fiber for digestive health and quercetin, a plant compound with antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and potential antihistamine properties. Adding cinnamon brings warmth and flavour, along with potential benefits for blood sugar regulation.
As Thanksgiving approached, I incorporated butternut squash into a comforting homemade soup and a healthier mac and cheese casserole. 🧡 Butternut squash is a nutritional powerhouse, rich in beta-carotene (vitamin A precursor) to support immune function, eye health, and skin health. It also provides fiber to support digestion.
To complete the seasonal shift, a visit to the pumpkin patch was in order! 🎃 Pumpkin seeds are packed with zinc, magnesium, healthy fats, and plant-based protein, making them a nutritious addition to fall meals and snacks.
🍁 Seasonal eating is a wonderful way to nourish our bodies, enjoy fresh local produce, and reconnect with nature’s rhythms.
Here’s to embracing autumn, one nourishing meal and seasonal tradition at a time! 🍂
