Let's talk about what physiotherapy can look like post-fracture.

Recently we had a patient who graduated at 110 % from physiotherapy.
- their mobility was equal on both sides
- their strength and hop tests were GREATER on their previously affected side

So what did their physiotherapy process look like.
- weekly appointments for the first month: this patient was keen to get back to sport and we needed to be progressing their exercise program frequently!
- then a 2 week follow up, then a 4 week follow up, and then a 6 week final follow up
- again each session involved exercise progression, return to practice strategies and then return to competitive sport strategies
- behind the scenes there was LOTS of patient consistency with home exercise ( and some short bouts of needing a break - life happens).

Sometimes consistency can be the difference between simply recovering and truly excelling in your return to activities and daily life!

▪Not everything has a quick fix—and that’s okay (although sometimes frustrating). ▪

Real progress comes from consistent, targeted work over time.

The exercises, the modifications, the habits, the small wins—they all add up. Stick with the process, because that’s where lasting change happens. 💪

A Baker’s Cyst or a Popliteal Cyst, is a fluid-filled sac at the back of the knee.

- These cysts are usually caused by inflammation within the knee joint.
- They are often visible at the back of the knee while standing with the knee straight.
- In addition to swelling, you will likely feel tightness in the knee when trying to fully bend or straighten the joint.

This is often treated with: Physical Therapy, Activity modification, Strategies or procedures to reduce inflammation, or Procedures to drain the cyst.

➡ The goal is to reduce swelling, and improve motion while treating the underlying cause of knee inflammation.

▪ MAY is National Physiotherapy Month! ▪
We asked AI for some facts about Physiotherapy in Alberta (and then we double checked them 🧐).

Something on my mind lately - Determinants of HEALTH

I've been reflecting on my ability to transport myself to appointments, change my work schedule to attend appointments, having the ability to clearly communicate with my healthcare providers, financially having access to physician care and imaging, having a support system ... and many other thoughts.
-
And we may be in a time that is increasingly shaped by wellness culture (arguably always have been, but there is greater exposure to marketing now)—green juices, step counts, weighted vests, vibration plates and self-optimization—it’s easy to forget that health is not just a matter of personal choice.
-
Our health is deeply influenced by the conditions we live in: income, housing, education, access to care, community support, and more. These are determinants of health—and they can matter just as much, and in some cases more, than individual habits.

🤓 📖 Have a read through of the points on the chart, and see what other ones your brain adds to the list❗️
