Flowers need space to bloom… and sometimes so does your body

Space through the shoulders and chest.
Space through the spine.
Space around the hips.
Space in your breath.
And sometimes, space in your mind, too.

That is the theme I’ll be bringing to chair yoga tomorrow: Creating Space.

We’ll use gentle movement, mobility, breathing and mindful awareness to help the body feel more open, supported and connected.

Because movement doesn’t always have to be about doing more.

Sometimes it’s about giving yourself permission to slow down, breathe, and create a little room to move.

I’ll see you in class tomorrow at 11:30 🌺

You don’t just need to move more. You need to move with intention.

Getting your steps in, standing up throughout the day, and generally being less sedentary are all important. But your body also needs movement that challenges it.

Strength training. Carrying heavy things. Getting down to the floor and back up. Working on balance. Moving through ranges of motion you don’t regularly use.

Because there’s a difference between simply moving your body and giving your body a reason to adapt.

Your body responds to the demands you place on it. If you want to build strength, maintain muscle, support bone health, improve balance and stay capable as you age, you need to give it something to work with.

Move often. But also move with purpose.

This was part of a recent interview with where we discussed perimenopause and strength training.

If you’ve got questions around menopause, please join me Aug 18 online for MENOPAUSE Q & A where I’ll be answering your questions - link to register is in my bio 😊

Nutrition matters at EVERY stage of life; but the way we feed ourselves through midlife and beyond can have an enormous impact on our health, longevity, and independence.

Leaking…Yep I’m talking about it!
This is a common issue many women face, especially when exercising.
It’s important to remember though that just because a symptom is common, you don’t need to just accept it as part of being a woman or as a part of aging.
Understanding why and when you leak as well as getting advice and support from professionals can help you build a plan that will keep you leak free at the gym, or anywhere else you go!

This fall is going to be a busy one… and I couldn’t be more excited!

Over the next few months I’ll be hosting a series of seminars, workshops, clinics, and Q&A sessions designed to help women build strength, improve their health, and feel more confident in their bodies.

Whether you’re looking to:
• learn how to fuel your body with confidence
• build strength safely and effectively
• better understand perimenopause and menopause
• improve your squat technique
• reduce your risk of falls as you age
• or simply learn more about what your body needs to thrive…

…there’s something for you.

My goal with every event is the same: to give you practical, evidence-based information that you can actually use in real life. No fads, no fear tactics, and no judgement. Just education, movement, and real conversations in a welcoming environment.

Swipe through to see what’s coming up this fall, then head to my website to learn more and reserve your spot. I’d love to see you there!

Which event are you most excited about?

Because strength isn’t just something you build in the gym. It’s something you build for life.

For years I believed that more was better.

More workouts.
More volume.
More intensity.
More days in the gym.

But somewhere along the way, I stopped recovering, stopped progressing, and started wondering why all my hard work wasn’t paying off.

The biggest breakthrough in my training didn’t come from doing more. It came from learning when to do less.

In Part 4 of my series, I share how reducing my training volume actually made me stronger, what the science says about recovery, and why many women, especially in midlife, need to stop chasing exhaustion and start training with intention.

If you’ve ever felt like you’re working harder than ever but getting nowhere, this one’s for you.

Read “When Doing Less Made Me Stronger” at the link in my bio or on Substack.

I’d love to hear from you. Have you ever found that doing less actually helped you make more progress?

Strength training won’t stop the clock, but it can change what the years ahead look like.

It helps preserve muscle, maintain bone density, improve balance, support your metabolism, and keep you doing the things you love for longer. It’s not about looking younger. It’s about staying capable, confident, and independent.

Every squat, push, pull, and carry is an investment in your future self.

The goal isn’t to avoid aging. The goal is to age strong.

Let’s make midlife a time of strength, confidence, and feeling good in your body again.

Those pauses feel soooo much longer than in reality!

Paused squats are one of those exercises that almost everyone loves to hate… and that’s exactly why they’re so effective.

By removing the stretch reflex at the bottom of the squat, a pause forces you to produce force from a dead stop. No bouncing. No relying on momentum. Just strength.

Paused squats can help:
• Build confidence in the bottom position
• Improve stability and balance under the bar
• Reinforce proper technique and positioning
• Increase time under tension for your legs and core
• Develop the strength needed to push through sticking points

If you find yourself folding over, losing tightness, or getting “stuck in the hole,” adding paused squats to your training can be a game changer.

The key is to actually pause. Stay tight, keep your brace, maintain tension, and resist the urge to relax at the bottom. A solid 2 to 3 second pause is usually all you need.

They’re challenging, humbling, and incredibly effective. Sometimes the best way to get stronger is to stop rushing through the hardest part.
