Happy to represent Ottawa Pelvic Health at this morning’s Rebecca | MC OTT Director event, where I had the pleasure of speaking with an amazing group of postpartum moms and their little ones🤍

We discussed the importance of pelvic floor rehabilitation after childbirth, the common changes your body goes through in the early postpartum period, and the key signs and symptoms every new mom should pay attention to. Recovery is about so much more than healing, it’s about helping you regain strength, confidence and function.

Thank you to everyone who joined, shared their experiences, and asked such thoughtful questions 🤍

A message from the heart to all women, especially those in postpartum ❤️

Please stop normalizing urinary leakage, C-section scar pain, constipation, or living with bowel symptoms for years. These are not things you simply have to accept, sometimes they can be related to pelvic floor dysfunction, and a pelvic floor physiotherapist may be able to help you 🌸

I wanted to share this message inspired by some of the cases I see every day in clinic. Your body deserves care, support, and attention 🤍

Constipation is more common than you think and many people are living with it without even realizing it🚽

That’s why I wanted to highlight the 6 main signs of constipation that you should be aware of.

To meet the criteria for constipation, you typically need to experience at least 2 of these 6 symptoms:
✅ For 12 weeks (3 months) or more over the past year
✅ The symptoms do not need to be consecutive
✅ They occur during at least 25% of bowel movements (about 1 out of every 4 times)

The 6 signs are:
1️⃣ Feeling a blockage or obstruction during a bowel movement
2️⃣ Needing to use a finger or manual technique to help pass stool
3️⃣ Feeling that you haven’t completely emptied your bowels after going
4️⃣ Passing hard stools (Type 1 or Type 2 on the Bristol Stool Chart)
5️⃣ Needing to strain or push during bowel movements
6️⃣ Having fewer than 3 bowel movements per week

If after watching this video you realize that you might be living with constipation, talk to your doctor about it and consider consulting a pelvic health physiotherapist for support and guidance.

✨ Stay tuned for the next video in this series to learn more about constipation.

💭 “My pain during in*******se isn’t always there, it comes and goes. Why?”

This is something many women describe when talking about dyspareunia (pain during in*******se).

The truth is, there isn’t one single cause. Every body is different, and several factors can contribute to pain that appears intermittently.

Here are 3 common reasons:

🌸 Hormones & your cycle: Before your period, hormone levels naturally drop, which can make the vaginal tissues drier and more sensitive.

🧘‍♀️ Stress: Physical and emotional stress can increase tension in the pelvic floor muscles, making the area more reactive.

💕 Time between in*******se: Longer periods without in*******se can sometimes make the tissues feel more sensitive when intimacy resumes.

These are just a few of the many possible reasons. Every woman is unique, and identifying the underlying cause is the key to finding the right treatment.

✨ Remember: Pain during in*******se is common, but it is not normal and you don’t have to live with it. A pelvic floor physiotherapist can help you understand what’s going on and support you on your journey toward pain-free intimacy🤍

Grateful to have attended this insightful panel discussion on endometriosis, bringing together the perspectives of a pelvic health physiotherapist, a psychologist, an endometriosis surgeon, and, most importantly, a patient sharing her lived experience.

It was a meaningful conversation highlighting the physical, mental, and multisystemic impact of endometriosis, while emphasizing the importance of not normalizing persistent pelvic pain or pain during in*******se. Raising awareness, encouraging early recognition, and empowering individuals to seek help are essential steps toward improving care and quality of life.

Together, we can continue breaking the silence around this invisible disease.

I’m so happy and excited to share that today is officially my first day at Ottawa Pelvic Health 😍

This new chapter will allow me to continue doing what I love most: helping individuals through pelvic health physiotherapy. I’ll be working with a variety of pelvic health conditions, supporting women as well as pediatric/children patients and their families.

I’m incredibly grateful for this opportunity and looking forward to the learning, growth, meaningful connections, and rewarding challenges ahead.

Here’s to new beginnings and the exciting journey ahead! ✨

This World Cup season reminded me of so many women I see in clinic.
Some experience urinary leakage 💧while running, jumping, and competing 🏃🏻‍♀️. Others notice symptoms while cheering from the sidelines, laughing, shouting, and supporting their favorite team.

Whether you’re a player or a cheerleader, pelvic floor symptoms are common, but they’re not something you have to live with. Seek help from a pelvic floor therapist 🤍👩🏻‍⚕️

💧 Bedwetting or Nocturnal Enuresis is a common medical condition many children experience, especially after the age of 5 🌙

Please don’t blame, shame, or compare your child 🤍 They are not doing it on purpose. Support, patience, and understanding help them grow through it.

A pediatric physiotherapist can help support bladder function gently and effectively ✨
Ask for help instead of blaming your child🤍
