The Southwest New Brunswick Transport Authority Inc. (SWNB TAI) is a new entity that formed in 2015 to establish and operate a scheduled bus service in this region. Back in 2013, a group of community leaders, recognizing the continuing need for a public transportation system to serve the Charlotte County region, formed the Charlotte County Transportation Working Group (TWG). The TWG envisioned a s
ystem that would connect the residents of incorporated (municipalities) and unincorporated areas (local service districts) with each other as well as connecting residents and visitors to the City of Saint John. The scheduled route would take the bus on a roundtrip to St. Andrews, St. Stephen, St. George, Pennfield, Lepreau, and Saint John, twice a day. The goal is to create public transit system that would work with services like Charlotte Dial-a-Ride to address the public transportation needs of the general public as well as vulnerable and disadvantaged groups. The bus is meant to enable all residents access to basic services, employment, and social relationships. A professional ridership analysis, a Medical Travel Report, and other studies, have all concluded that a regional bus service is needed in Southwest NB and that it makes economic sense for the Province to support. With financial support from the Economic and Social Inclusion Corporation (ESIC) and Regional Service Commission (RSC) 10, tireless work by municipal leaders, strong advocates in MLA John Ames and MLA Rick Doucet, and crucial support from the general public, we are well on our way!
