From the Nordics to Søle | Five Ideas I'm Bringing Back to Alberta
As my Nordic research journey comes to an end, one question keeps coming up:
"What are you bringing back to Søle?"
The answer isn't souvenirs.
It's inspiration.
Here are five ideas that will help shape the next chapter of Søle Nordic Wellness.
1. A More Intentional Approach to Massage
One of the most meaningful discoveries was experiencing how Finnish massage therapists often blend techniques with an unhurried, intuitive approach. Rather than following a routine, they "listen" to the body, adapting each treatment to what the client needs in that moment. That philosophy aligns beautifully with how we want every guest to feel, seen, cared for, and never rushed.
2. Scandinavian Skincare That Supports the Skin Barrier
I discovered Swedish skincare brands that focus on strengthening the skin barrier rather than chasing trends. Their philosophy is simple: healthy, resilient skin comes first. As we continue to grow, we're exploring ways to complement our existing skincare offerings with products that reflect this distinctly Nordic approach.
3. Refreshing Nordic-Inspired Beverages
Hydration is an important part of the wellness journey. Throughout my travels I've enjoyed beautifully simple beverages inspired by berries, herbs, botanicals, and sparkling waters. I'm excited to explore how refreshing Nordic-inspired drinks could become part of the Søle experience during your wellness circuit.
4. Learning from Finland's Saunottajas
Perhaps my greatest inspiration has been learning about the role of the Saunottaja, a trained sauna guide who transforms sauna into a thoughtfully paced ritual using heat, steam, aroma, rhythm, and intention. While our approach will be uniquely Søle, these traditions have given me a deeper appreciation for what guided sauna experiences can become.
5. A Vision for Our Expansion
This journey has completely changed how I think about our upcoming renovation.
Not simply how it should look, but how it should feel.
The architecture, natural materials, lighting, acoustics, guest flow, and quiet moments between experiences all matter. Every detail should support calm, restoration, and connection.
This trip has reminded me that authentic Nordic wellness isn't created through luxury alone.
It's created through thoughtful design, meaningful traditions, and genuine hospitality.
I can't wait to bring these ideas home and continue building something truly special for our community.
Kiitos. Tack. Takk.
Thank you for following along on this journey.
