🩺 Herpes Zoster (Shingles): Know the Signs

Shingles can start with burning, tingling, or pain before the rash appears. A painful, blistering rash usually develops on one side of the body.

Early assessment is important — especially if the rash is near the eye, or symptoms are severe.

💊 Treatment may include antiviral medication, pain management, and keeping the rash clean and covered. Vaccination can also help reduce the risk and severity of shingles.

If you’re concerned about a rash, pain, or other symptoms, visit Leduc Clinic Pharmacy for assessment, treatment guidance, and pharmacist support.

🦶 Wart or Corn? Knowing the Difference Can Help You Choose the Right Treatment.

Although they may look similar, warts and corns are not the same.

🔹 Common Wart
• Caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV)
• Has a rough, grainy surface
• May show tiny black dots
• Can spread through direct contact
• Often hurts when squeezed from the sides

🔸 Corn
• Caused by repeated pressure or friction
• Has a hard central core
• Usually develops over bony areas of the feet
• Is not contagious
• Typically hurts when direct pressure is applied

⚠️ Don’t ignore persistent foot lesions. If you’re unsure whether it’s a wart or a corn, getting the correct diagnosis is important—especially if you have diabetes, poor circulation, or ongoing foot pain.

Many men experience erectile dysfunction (ED), but few talk about it.

ED can be linked to high blood pressure, diabetes, cholesterol problems, stress, medication side effects, and other health conditions.

The good news is that ED is often treatable.

Our prescribing pharmacists can assess, provide guidance, and prescribe treatment when appropriate, all in a private and confidential setting.

🦶 Fungal Infections: More Common Than You Think! 🍄

Not every rash or itchy area is “just dry skin.” Common fungal infections can affect the skin, feet, groin, and nails, and often require the right treatment to clear completely.

🔍 Common fungal infections include:
• Ringworm (round, itchy rash)
• Athlete’s Foot (itching, burning, peeling between toes)
• Jock Itch (itchy red rash in the groin area)
• Nail Fungus (thick, yellow, brittle nails)

⚠️ Fungal infections thrive in warm, moist environments and can spread through direct contact, shared towels, locker rooms, footwear, and contaminated surfaces.

✅ Tips to help prevent fungal infections:
• Keep skin clean and dry
• Change socks daily
• Wear breathable footwear
• Avoid sharing towels and personal items
• Wear sandals in public showers and locker rooms

Many fungal infections can be treated effectively, but some—especially nail fungus—may require longer treatment and professional assessment.

💬 Not sure if it’s a fungal infection? Our pharmacists can assess many common skin conditions and help recommend appropriate treatment options.
