Whether you're recovering from injury or looking to optimize your performance - proper loading and quality of movement make all the difference!⠀
⠀
That's why we like to call the space where rehab and performance intersect "our sweet spot"👍⠀
⠀
What does this sweet spot look like, exactly?⠀
1️⃣ Loading your tissues properly to progress your recovery safely⠀
2️⃣ Reducing your risk of re-injury⠀
3️⃣ Adjusting your movement patterns to perform efficiently⠀
4️⃣ Developing stronger, more mobile individuals to crush all your performance goals! 💪🔥⠀
⠀
Even in our temporary space, you can book in with one of our physiotherapists for a full-body movement assessment to determine the areas you need to work on to reduce your injury risk and improve performance!⠀

Just click the link in bio ✅

We can't wait until we are finally able to get into this space!⠀
⠀
Thank you so much to everyone who has been patiently waiting with us and supporting us through the curve balls we've been thrown as we work on building our dream clinic! 🙏⠀

We appreciate you all and can't wait to get you in there! 🙌⠀

Goal setting is a great way to kick off each new month.💪⠀
⠀
Pick something you want to work on and break it down into simple, easy-to-complete steps that you can work on each day!✅⠀
⠀
Try stacking these steps on top of things you already do to make it easier to implement (AKA Habit Stacking).⠀
⠀
What are you guys working on this month? Tell us in the comments!

For our runners out there - make sure you are taking time to work on building up strength in those soleus muscles! 🦵🔥⠀
⠀
Some ways you can work on them include:⠀
✅ Using a seated calf raise machine⠀
✅ Standing calf raises with knees bent ⠀
✅ Seated heel raises with a weight on your lap⠀
✅ Single leg bridge with calf raise⠀
⠀
Strength training is one of the most important ways to keep you running injury free!⠀

They may not be the same as in-person racing, but it looks like we'll bee doing them for a while yet (and the Moon Light Run is right around the corner!), so we thought we'd share some tips on how to prepare for one! 🏃‍♂️🏃‍♀️⠀

We just had to share this one from none other than ! He really knows how to make complex topics simple (or at least simpler) 👍⠀
⠀
We know that we need stress in order to be able to get positive adaptations. No stress = no chance of adapting.⠀
⠀
The hard part is knowing how much stress to allow for before recovery, and then how much recovery is required in order to avoid negative adaptations.⠀
⠀
If you NEVER take time to recover - you will NOT see positive adaptations ⚠️⠀
⠀
Stress + Recovery = Positive Adaptations ✅⠀
⠀
Everyone is different, but everyone has a balance that needs to be present in order to progress.⠀

This is why our KneeFIT program is so key for those who have had an ACL repair!⠀
⠀
This rehab program for ACL injuries includes extensive Return to Play testing to make sure that you reduce your risk of re-injury as much as possible 💪🔥⠀
⠀
We do substantial testing at 3, 6, and 9 months to make sure your recovery is on track and you are safe to move into the next stage of rehab.⠀
⠀
Recovery after ACL surgery is NOT easy.⠀
⠀
It requires a solid, progressive plan, with proper testing, and a whole lot of effort on the patient's part.⠀
⠀
If you want a system that is research-based - KneeFIT is what you are looking for! If you are not testing, you are just guessing if you are ready to return to play!⠀

Now more than ever this is so important!⠀
⠀
Up until this last year we've had things like races, game days, tournaments, competitions to give us a reason to stick with our training plans, our mobility work, etc...⠀
⠀
Now - that's gone (or it's changed a lot).⠀
⠀
Now is the time to take the time to 💭 about your "WHY".⠀
Dive deep and get to the root of why you do what you do.⠀
⠀
Is it for the medals/praise?⠀
Is it for the sense of community?⠀
Is it because it makes you feel good?⠀
Is it because I believe in it?⠀
Is it because it's just what you've always done?⠀
⠀
If you can take the time to attach meaning to your goals you are more likely to be able to stick with working towards them when there is very limited external motivation. 💪⠀
⠀
Find your WHY - find your 🔥

Meet: Nico Pasquotti! ()⠀
⠀
▪️ ▪️ ▪️ ▪️ ▪️⠀
⠀
Nico is a 25 year old professional soccer player from our very own YQL! 💪⚽⠀
⠀
Nico has played for the , , , and (what a resume!), while pursuing an education in Design and Drafting and Business Management.⠀
⠀
He's been awarded the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association Men’s Soccer Player of the Year and the Canadian Premier League Best XI!🏆⠀
⠀
In the 3rd last game of his second professional season, he was injured and unfortunately required major knee reconstruction surgery to repair his ACL, medial meniscus, and lateral meniscus with a root repair.⠀
⠀
These days you can find Nico crushing his rehab and putting in the work 5-6 days a week with our very own .physio!⠀
⠀
💬We asked him how things were going:⠀
N: You guys have a very detailed and structured plan for the entire rehab process for knee injuries and surgeries. I felt very confident in what the plans were for my rehab and how it was all going to go because it is in a booklet, laid out, week by week, with 3-6-9 month testing. To me, that has made it so much easier mentally, knowing that there is an actual plan and it can give me some insight into what I am going to be going through. One of the biggest things that Niko and the KneeFit protocol stresses, is testing. It definitely helps to know where I am at, what I can safely do in the rehab process, and where I need to get to 👍⠀
⠀
This guy is a BEAST! We can't wait to get him back on the pitch!

This week in the line up we've got....(drumroll please)...⠀
Matt Okrainec! ()⠀
⠀
▪️ ▪️ ▪️ ▪️ ▪️⠀
⠀
💬 Where did you go to school?⠀
N: I completed my Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology in 2014 and my Masters of Physical Therapy in 2016 at the University of Saskatchewan.⠀
⠀
💬 What has been your main sport?⠀
N: I played competitive soccer ⚽ and football 🏈 over the years growing up, but I quickly shifted my involvement in sport to physiotherapy. I completed a Sports Physiotherapy Fellowship with Huskie Athletics at the Univ of Sask. Following my fellowship, I worked as a team therapist for Huskie Athletics, where I managed all injuries and rehabilitation for the Universities football, track & field, and soccer programs. I then took the opportunity to move to London, Ontario, and worked at the world-renowned Fowler Kennedy Sport Medicine Centre, with a leading sports medicine team. I have been actively involved with many athletes, sports, teams, and committees throughout my career.⠀
⠀
💬 What sparked your interest in physiotherapy?⠀
N: I had a brutal knee injury when I was a teenager that required a long rehabilitative process. I also volunteered in a Sports Medicine Center throughout my undergrad degree and I loved helping individuals meet their goals.⠀
⠀
💬 How else do you like to keep active?⠀
N: I enjoy golf, running, weightlifting, soccer, and any activities outside.⠀
⠀
⠀
"I strive to fully understand each of my patient’s situations and help them find the best evidence-based solution to meet their goals and get them back to what they want to do.”⠀
⠀
Matt's schedule is officially open online! He'll be operating temporarily out of "Back in Balance Wellness Centre" with Niko while the clinic waits for our building construction to be completed. Just click the linkin.bio to book a session!👍
