Today is World Sight Day, a chance to reflect on the importance of eye health and the experiences of people who are blind, have low vision, or are Deafblind. 🧑‍🦯‍➡️🦮

When communities provide the right tools, support, and opportunities, people with sight loss can thrive in every aspect of life. Early detection through regular eye exams, especially for children, can make a lifelong difference.

World Sight Day reminds us why accessible, affordable eye care and inclusive communities matter, and why we all play a role in making them possible.

Fall is here, and it is time to get prepped for the season to come! 🍂🍂🍂

As you get things ready for the changing season, make sure your eyes are your # 1 priority. We carry a number of protective safety glasses that can be customized to you and your needs! Safety glasses protect against flying debris, chemicals, and harmful UV, all things that you are exposed to when cleaning up your yard. We can even make them with a sunglass lens too for long projects outside!

Stop by today and chat with the folks in the lab about what we can do to help you stay protected!

Sports are back in full swing with the school year up and running! Make sure you are keeping their eyes protected while out on the rink, field, or diamonds 🏒⚽🥎

Protective eyewear should have a special spot in their bag, as it protects from injury, debris, and trauma. If an injury to the eye or face does occur, give us a call and we can take a look to ensure there isn't something deeper going on. Kids under 19 are fully covered for emergency care! Beyond protection, their vision plays a role in their performance too. A comprehensive eye exam can help identify any issues with vision or depth perception, and we can get your athletes seeing their best!

Give us a call today to book an exam, or stop in to see our wide variety of sport specific eyewear!

Today, on the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, we honour Survivors of residential schools, remember the children who never returned home and acknowledge the intergenerational impacts that continue to affect families and communities across Alberta and Canada 🧡

The orange shirt originates from the story of Phyllis Webstad, whose new orange shirt, a gift from her grandmother, was taken from her on her first day of residential school. It has since become a symbol of the message that Every Child Matters.

In recognition of this day, AAO staff are wearing orange in solidarity and remembrance.

As a health care association, the AAO recognizes its responsibility in advancing reconciliation. We reaffirm our commitment to reconciliation through continued learning and by supporting culturally safe, equitable eye care for First Nations, Métis and Inuit Peoples throughout the province.

We encourage our members and partners to take time for reflection and learning. Visit orangeshirtday.org to learn more.

🍂 With the seasons changing, there is nothing like a warm, comforting meal that is packed with all the good things for your eyes! 🍂

This hearty turkey chili is full of whole ingredients that support your eye health and overall health. The lentils and chickpeas contain bioflavonoids and zinc, which protect your retina and lower your risk for developing macular degeneration and cataracts. The dark, leafy greens are packed with lutein and zeaxanthin to protect against light-induced oxidative damage, which plays a role in the development of macular degeneration.

All in all, this recipe is a great addition to your fall rotation, and comes together in minutes!
