OPEN FIT HEARING AIDS FOR HIGH-FREQUENCY HEARING LOSS

There are many different types and styles of hearing instruments available today. A behind-the-ear model hooks over the top of the ear and rests behind it. From there it can connect to different earpiece styles. An open-fit hearing aid is a type of behind-the-ear model that lets the ear remain open by sending a narrow tube into the ear canal to channel sound. This type of hearing aid amplifies high-frequency sounds like children’s voices, while allowing lower frequency sounds to enter the ear canal on their own. An open-fit hearing aid can be preferable for many users, since they can be more comfortable and may have more natural sound, especially when it comes to the sound of one’s own voice.
Millions of people face the daily challenge of living with a hearing loss – some because of illness or a medical condition, noise, heredity, or simply the aging process. And while the number of hearing-impaired individuals is on the rise, so too are the ways of dealing with hearing impairment. If you or a loved one falls victim to hearing loss, don’t suffer in silence. Instead, take the first step toward changing your life. Visit LINDSAY EAR CLINIC to find out about the ground-breaking options available today to help maximize your hearing potential.
P.S. An open-fit hearing aid is a popular solution for age-related hearing loss and noise-induced hearing loss, two of the most common types of hearing loss.

CAN HEARING LOSS BE REVERSED?

Many people ask if hearing loss can be reversed.

The answer depends on what's causing it.

If hearing difficulties are caused by earwax buildup, fluid in the ear, or certain medical conditions, hearing may improve once the underlying issue is addressed.

However, most age-related hearing loss and noise-induced hearing loss cannot be reversed.

The good news is that modern hearing technology can often help people hear conversations more clearly and stay connected to the people they love.

The first step is understanding what's causing the problem.

HEARING LOSS DOESN'T ALWAYS MEAN "OLD AGE"

Many people think hearing loss only affects seniors.

In reality, hearing loss can occur at any age.

Noise exposure, genetics, certain medications, illnesses, and other factors can all contribute to hearing difficulties.

If you've noticed changes in your hearing, don't assume you're "too young" to have your hearing checked.

Hearing health matters throughout your entire life.

ACOUSTIC NEUROMA SYMPTOMS AND HEARING LOSS

The eighth cranial nerve runs from the inner ear to the brain and plays a role in both hearing and balance. Acoustic neuroma, also called vestibular schwannoma, is a noncancerous tumor that forms along the branches of this nerve. While it can develop in relation to both ears, 98% of cases are single-sided, and over 90% of those cases cause some degree of hearing loss. The lost hearing tends to increase over time and can lead to deafness, although spontaneous recovery is possible. Other symptoms that are not hearing related include tinnitus, balance problems, and vertigo. Since the tumors can put pressure on nearby cranial nerves, facial numbness, twitching, weakness, swallowing problems, headaches, and head pressure can all occur.
Parents and children, teenagers and seniors - many people don’t realize how easy it is to subject their hearing to dangerous sound levels until it is too late. Fortunately, today more than ever, people from all walks of life are learning more about their hearing and the ways to protect it. If you or a loved one has suffered hearing impairment due to excessive noise, injury, disease, or the aging process, remember you’ve got a friend at LINDSAY EAR CLINIC. Our goal is a straight-forward one—help the hearing impaired through our expertise, personal service, and the latest technology.
P.S. Symptoms of acoustic neuroma can mimic other ear conditions that cause hearing loss like cholesteatoma, labyrinthitis, or Meniere’s disease.

📢 WHY DO PEOPLE WITH HEARING LOSS FEEL MORE TIRED?

Have you ever felt exhausted after a social gathering, even though you didn't do much physically?

Hearing loss can actually make your brain work harder. When sounds become more difficult to hear, your brain spends extra energy trying to fill in the missing pieces of conversations.

This is called "listening fatigue," and it's a common sign of hearing loss.

If you find yourself feeling drained after family dinners, meetings, or social events, it may be time to have your hearing checked.

A hearing test is quick, painless, and can help identify whether hearing loss may be contributing to your fatigue.

GAMES THAT HELP HEARING

Smartphones have been used as hearing assistance devices for a while, but now they can play a role in maintaining or even improving hearing ability. Many entertaining apps are geared toward smaller children (under the age of 12) with auditory comprehension and/or processing disorders. These apps can help them learn to focus through hearing difficulties, greatly improving their auditory attention. Other apps are designed for any age and can help train the auditory system to focus in a variety of environments for those with hearing issues and those without who still have trouble understanding conversations in noisy situations. Many of the apps can even be fine-tuned to suit a person’s specific needs.
Smartphones are everywhere these days, and their apps have far-reaching benefits other than viewing emails, playing games, and checking the weather. They can be valuable tools in enhancing hearing impaired individuals’ lives. Do you have questions about your hearing? Please call LINDSAY EAR CLINIC to schedule a hearing test. Diagnosis of a hearing impairment and decisions about the best kind of hearing aid for individual needs are best left to a skilled, specially trained registered audiologist, such as you’ll find here at our clinic.
P.S. There are several apps available that can help those with hearing deficits learn to improve their pronunciation.
