What happens after goodbye?

At St. Joseph’s Hospice, we walk alongside families through life’s most tender moments—offering comfort, peace, and dignity to those at the end of life. But our care doesn’t stop there.
Memorial Giving allows loved ones to carry someone’s memory forward—whether through a tribute gift, a leaf on our Gratitude Tree, or participating in events like HIKE for Hospice. These acts of remembrance help grieving families heal, connect, and honour those they’ve lost.

🕊️ Legacy Giving, such as leaving a gift in your will, ensures that future families will receive the same compassionate care—long after you’re gone. It’s a powerful way to make your love live on.

To our incredible donors who have left an estate gift: thank you. Your generosity echoes through every quiet moment, every warm meal, every touch of comfort we offer.

Your legacy is more than a gift—it’s hope, love, and care that never ends. 💫

Journey Through Grief: Child Loss 💛

The loss of a child changes a person forever. Grief can feel overwhelming, isolating, and impossible to put into words but you do not have to walk through it alone.

Join us on Tuesday, June 30 from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. for a gentle psychoeducational seminar for parents navigating grief after the loss of a child, adoloescent or adult child. Together, we will explore the impact of loss, coping tools, and ways to move through grief with support, compassion, and understanding.

An optional guided discussion will also provide space for reflection and shared support in a safe and welcoming environment.

She didn't want to leave.

And thanks to the families who support St. Joseph's Hospice, she didn't have to.

Every day, our hallways hold spouses who haven't slept in their own beds for weeks. Children who visit every chance they get. Family members who pull their chair as close as it will go, just to hold a hand a little longer. Most times family members don’t want to leave their loved ones side at hospice.

This spring, we're raising funds for sleeper chairs and over-bed tables for our hospice suites. Not luxuries, necessities. The things that let a family stay close, rest nearby, and be present for every moment that matters. "Because of St. Joseph's Hospice, I was able to sit with my mom, read to her, play her favourite music, and truly focus on our final time together."

A gift of $375 provides an over-bed table. A gift of $900 provides a sleeper chair. Any gift tells a family: you are not alone.

Grief changes shape over time, but it doesn’t disappear and it doesn’t have to.

There’s no right way to grieve. No timeline. No “moving on” that looks the same for everyone.

What if, instead of trying to fix it, we gave ourselves permission to feel it… to carry it… to honour it?

Because grief is not separate from love…it’s a continuation of it.

Wherever you are in your journey, you are not alone.

What’s the difference between hospice and palliative care?

Many people confuse hospice with palliative care but they’re not the same.

✔ Palliative care can begin at any stage of illness
✔ Hospice care is for those nearing end-of-life, focusing fully on comfort

Both are rooted in compassion, dignity, and support.

Understanding the difference helps families make informed, confident decisions.

🐾 Animals are always welcome at Hospice. 🐾

Our pets are family, and we know just how much comfort, love, and companionship they bring. Whether it's a wagging tail, a gentle nuzzle, or simply sitting quietly by a loved one’s side, our furry friends have a special way of brightening even the hardest days.

The smiles they bring to residents, families, volunteers, and staff are priceless. Their unconditional love creates moments of joy, comfort, connection, and peace when they are needed most.

At Hospice, we believe in caring for the whole person and sometimes that includes making room for four-legged family members too. ❤️🐶🐱

Did you know hospice is designed to keep people together?

Hospice is a place for families, including children. We provide safe, supportive spaces where kids can visit, connect, and be part of meaningful moments with their loved ones.

It’s more than a place for care, it’s a place where connection is protected and prioritized, so the people who matter most can stay close.

At our hospice, every space is created with that in mind. From our Family Room to our warm, welcoming common areas, everything is thoughtfully designed to feel calm, comfortable, and like home.

It’s where kids can be kids, families can gather, and meaningful moments can happen naturally together.

We want our Hospice home to feel as home like as possible!
