Want to know what it looks like when PD dialysis fluid leaks into your lung? I was having trouble with my final fluid drains so they sent me for an Xray to see if my catheter had moved. Instead, what they found was PD fluid that had leaked into my chest. They wanted a CT scan to confirm it was actually PD fluid so they put contrast fluid into my belly and sent me for the CT scan. The scan clearly shows the fluid in my right lung. There’s a chance the leak can heal on its own if given time, so I can’t do dialysis for 2-6 weeks. Praying my kidneys have enough function to get me through this pause and hoping that I’ll be able to get back to regular dialysis and feeling better soon. Apparently, while a leak is rare, it is slightly more common in people with PKD because our large kidneys mean less room in the abdomen for the PD fluid - which means more pressure in the abdomen when the fluid is dwelling. Despite all this, I am still happy with my choice to do PD and I’m hoping to get back to regularly scheduled programming. 😉
