Hear from one of our board members on the Vanier board experience:

“It is an honour and a privilege to volunteer on Vanier’s Board of Directors because the organization is dedicated to maintaining a focus on the needs of all children and families. Vanier’s commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion, and belonging is demonstrated by the diversity of programming created using universal design principles and the customized and intentional care shown each client. As a board member for the last four years, I’ve been moved each time I attend an event or visit the campus to witness the care and respect that staff at Vanier have for their clients.” Krista Vogt Vice-Chair, Board of Directors

With the introduction of enhanced services, families can now access child and youth mental health services through one central system-just one call, click, or visit. This allows them to share their story once and follow a simplified, coordinated pathway to receive the appropriate level of care.

Having trouble communicating with your children? Try the PACE approach - Playfulness, Acceptance, Curiosity, and Empathy

Developed by Clinical Psychologist Dan Hughes, PACE is a trauma-informed approach to helping children face everyday challenges. A way of thinking, feeling, and communicating in a way that feels safe.

Playfulness - creating an atmosphere that feels light, playful, and interesting. If a child doesn't want to do something, how can you make it fun?

Acceptance - creating a safe space to be accepted without judgment and being a good listener. It does not mean accepting the behaviour, but more acknowledging what the child is experiencing.

Curiosity - being curious about the why and reflecting on the behaviour, helping children understand themselves. Ask curious questions.

Empathy - feeling the experience along with the child, and being there for them in difficult times.
