“Grandma, please don’t tell Mum.”
Add an urgent request for money, and that is a call worth pausing.
Scammers can use AI to imitate a familiar voice. Hearing someone who sounds like your grandchild is no longer enough to verify who is calling.
Before sending money:
1. End the call.
2. Call your relative using a number you already know—not the number the caller gives you.
3. If you cannot reach them, check with another trusted family member.
Urgency and secrecy are reasons to check the story carefully.
You are allowed to be awkward when someone is asking for your money.
Have this conversation with your family before a frightening call happens.
