Coping skills are useful. But they're not the same as healing.

When therapy focuses only on symptom management, the underlying cause stays intact, and the symptoms return. The approach at DeRoches Counselling goes deeper, using psychodynamic and attachment-informed work to surface the patterns driving your experience. This is the difference between putting out fires and stopping them from starting.

If you've ever walked into a therapist's office and spent the whole session explaining your life rather than working on it, you understand what it costs to be underserved by the system you came to for help.

You are not too complicated. You've just been in rooms that weren't designed for you.

This one is. Share this with someone who's given up on finding the right fit.

People-pleasing isn't a personality trait. It's a coping strategy that outlived its usefulness.

For many people, prioritizing others' needs before their own was the safest way to navigate childhood. It worked then. But carried into adulthood, it slowly erodes your own sense of self, your boundaries, your voice, and your relationships.

If you've ever said yes when every part of you wanted to say no, save this. You're not too nice. You're overdue for some understanding.

Ever notice how the same dynamic shows up in relationship after relationship, no matter who the other person is?

That's not bad luck. It's attachment. The patterns we learned in our earliest relationships become the template we unconsciously recreate in adult ones. Until those patterns are made conscious and worked through, they tend to repeat.

The good news is that they can change. Save this if you've noticed the same story playing out in your relationships.

Narrative therapy is based on a simple but powerful idea: you are not your problem. The problem is the problem. ✨

This approach helps you separate yourself from the stories you've been told, or have told yourself, about who you are. When those stories are limiting, rooted in shame, or just inaccurate, therapy becomes a place to examine them and write something truer.

If the story you've been living doesn't feel like you, save this.

You don't have to be in London or St. Thomas to access therapy that actually fits your life.

Virtual sessions offer the same depth of care as in-person. And for many people, the ability to connect from home, during a lunch break, or from a private corner of their day makes therapy possible when it wasn't before. Convenience is not a compromise. It's access.

Drop a 🙋 in the comments if virtual therapy has made a difference for you.

We don't repeat old patterns because we're broken — we repeat them because at some point, they made sense. 🔍

Psychodynamic therapy works by bringing those early learned responses into awareness. The attachment style that kept you safe as a child. The beliefs about love or trust or worth that formed before you had the language to question them. The way conflict, intimacy, or abandonment tends to show up in the same shape across different relationships.

When you understand where a pattern comes from, you stop being run by it. That's the shift psychodynamic work creates — not just symptom relief, but genuine insight that changes how you relate to yourself and the people around you.

Darryl DeRoches brings over 25 years of experience helping clients make that shift.

Relationships end. People change. Sometimes the grief isn't for a person but for the version of a relationship you hoped it could be.

That kind of grief is real, even when there's no obvious loss to point to. Whether you're navigating a breakup, a family estrangement, or the slow fading of a friendship, what you're feeling deserves space and support.
