Today we honor Juneteenth, a day that commemorates the end of slavery in the United States. Although the Emancipation Proclamation was issued on January 1, 1863, it wasn’t until June 19, 1865, that enslaved people learned they were free—more than two years later.

Juneteenth is both a celebration of freedom and a reminder of the importance of justice, equity, and opportunity for all. It invites us to reflect on our history, recognize the resilience and contributions of Black communities, and continue learning about the ongoing pursuit of civil rights and equality.

Today, we celebrate freedom, honor those who fought for it, and recommit ourselves to building a more inclusive future.

Today was an incredibly rewarding day!

I had the privilege of facilitating a one-day training on Creating an Inclusive and Culturally Competent Play Therapy Practice for the Canadian Association for Play Therapy.

It was an honour to engage with and support 42 dedicated students who are committed to strengthening their skills and creating more inclusive spaces for children and families. The thoughtful discussions, shared experiences, and passion for learning made for an inspiring day.

Thank you to everyone who participated and contributed to such a meaningful learning experience. I’m grateful for the opportunity to support the growth of culturally responsive and inclusive play therapy practices across Canada
