Hearing loss is more common among younger people than you may think. 12.5% of people 6 to 19 years old and 17% of people 20 to 69 years old have permanent damage to their hearing from noise exposure.

We call this type of hearing loss noise-induced hearing loss (NIHL). NIHL is preventable, but once it occurs, it is irreversible. NIHL can be caused by a one-time exposure like a blast or by repetitive exposures to loud noises. Do your best to protect your ears when in loud situations and be sure to limit exposure to loud sounds whenever possible.
