An extraordinarily rare case in Australia has highlighted just how surprising biology can be.

A surrogate became pregnant with twins, but the babies had two different sets of genetic parents. 😲

One baby was genetically related to the surrogate and her husband, while the other was the genetic child of the surrogate’s intended parents.

Yes… both babies were carried by the same surrogate and born together, yet they were not genetically related to each other in the way you would normally expect twins to be.

The incredibly unusual situation was discovered through DNA testing and ultimately required the Australian courts to determine the babies’ legal parentage.
