This is the most common concern we hear before a patient starts spinal decompression at Cameron Family Chiropractic β and it's understandable. If your disc is already bulging or herniated, the idea of adding any kind of force to the spine sounds counterintuitive.
But here's what most people aren't told:
Spinal decompression is not strapping someone to a table and pulling as hard as possible. It's a precise, computer-controlled process with specific angles, specific force, and specific treatment cycles β all determined by where the disc injury is located, how severe it is, and what the surrounding structures look like.
When done correctly, decompression creates a change in pressure inside the disc that reduces compression on the nerve β not increases it. The disc material is encouraged to retract. The nerve gets space to calm down and recover.
The key word is correctly. Proper patient selection and proper treatment setup are everything. At Cameron Family Chiropractic, no one begins spinal decompression without a thorough evaluation first.
