Some lives are held for only a moment and loved for a lifetime.

Today, on Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Day, families and communities around the world will take part in the International Wave of Light, lighting candles at 7 p.m. to honour babies who have died during pregnancy, at birth, or in infancy, and the families who continue to carry them in their hearts.

At Canuck Place, candle lighting is a special part of how we remember. Each week, we gather to light a candle for every child who has died, taking a moment to honour their life, their family, and the privilege of caring for them. We share stories, memories, and the small moments that make each child uniquely themselves.

Tonight, we join the Wave of Light, holding these children, babies, and families in our hearts and remembering the light they continue to bring to the world.

We are grateful to organizations like Butterfly Run BC, who create opportunities for remembrance, connection, and support for families experiencing pregnancy and infant loss.

We also recognize that remembrance and grief continues beyond today. For families navigating the loss of a pregnancy or infant, Canuck Place offers an Infant Loss Support Group.

Light a life this holiday season and help bring comfort, connection and care to children with serious illnesses and the families who love them.

It’s not something most of us like to think about, but estate and end-of-life planning involves much more than making arrangements for a funeral or cremation.

We’ve created a new website to help families begin thinking about some of the important details that are often overlooked:

• Who would look after your affairs if you were unable to?
• Does your family know where to find your important documents?
• Have you shared your wishes for end-of-life care?
• Do your loved ones know what you would want for your funeral or cremation?
• What will happen to your online accounts, subscriptions and digital information?
• Does someone know about your bills, investments, insurance policies and other important information?

The purpose of this website is not to sell you something or tell you what decisions to make.

It is simply a resource to help you understand what should be considered and begin getting organized.
