June marks Seniors’ Month, a time to recognize and support older adults — and bring attention to an important but often missed health concern: delirium. This sudden change in thinking and awareness can develop quickly and signal serious underlying issues.

“Delirium is a sign that something in the body is wrong,” says Trini Das, Geriatrics Nurse Practitioner. “Early recognition and treatment make a real difference.”

Meet Alanna Landry👋

Alanna is a registered nurse and educator in the Paediatric Diabetes Clinic. She's also one of our 2025-2026 Honoured to Care Award recipients for compassion.

Read what Alanna's nominator had to say 📣

"From understanding how overnight blood sugars affect sleep to asking about personal and school milestones, she finds ways to build meaningful relationships with her patients. She challenges clinical practices that are not aligned with the values of patient-centred care and offers innovative suggestions on how to improve them. Outside of her clinical work, Alanna champions equitable patient experience at a provincial, national, and international level. This work has allowed her to advocate for important initiatives such as improved nursing support within schools and equitable access to diabetes technology."

Yesterday, we proudly raised the Intersex-Inclusive Pride flag at both Markham Stouffville Hospital (MSH) and Uxbridge Hospital. Raising the Pride flag is more than a symbol — it reflects our ongoing commitment to fostering an environment where everyone can be their authentic selves.

We also unveiled our new Pride sidewalk at the entrance of MSH. More than a colourful addition to our front entrance, the sidewalk stands as a powerful, visible symbol of acceptance, inclusion, and allyship.

Nurses are at the heart of every patient experience — bringing clinical expertise, compassion, and reassurance when it matters most.

Claudia Cheung, registered nurse on Paediatrics at Markham Stouffville Hospital, supports patients from newborns to teens, helping children and families navigate vulnerable moments with care and confidence. Through thoughtful communication, play, and presence, Claudia helps create health care experiences that are not only safe, but comforting and meaningful.
We’re grateful for nurses like Claudia whose skill, empathy, and dedication shape positive outcomes — and lasting trust — for our patients, families, and community.

May is Asian Heritage Month, and staff participated in activities celebrating Asian cultures, histories, and roots.

We are proud to have partnered with and .schools to bring history and culture into our hospital spaces through a special exhibit: Standing in the Doorway: Lived Histories and Experiences of the Chinese Community. The exhibition highlights stories of resistance, resilience, and the many accomplishments of residents of Chinese descent across York Region.

Staff were also invited to share their favourite Asian-inspired dishes — or try making one of the recipes shared by colleagues — for a chance to win a prize.
