Many abusive relationships develop gradually and, at first, it might be tempting to label an abuser’s behaviour as harmless, perhaps just signs of love, jealousy, or emotional insecurity. However, this is never true. Abuse is always about having power and control over another. Here is a red flag that you may be in a controlling or abusive relationship.

Nothing you did contributed towards the abuse you have faced, and you are not alone. Please contact us at 1-855-541-2220, [email protected], or www.yrccs.ca to get connected to a trained domestic violence Advocate and let us help. All our services are confidential.

A safety plan helps you have a strategy in place for safely escaping a dangerous or frightening encounter with an abuser, even if it’s just temporarily. A safety plan can also help prepare you to leave an abuser for good.

Here is a safety planning tip for you to keep in mind. Please remember, a safety plan is not a replacement for calling 911 if you’re in an immediately dangerous situation.
