This is to help orientate the student with the equipment with the understanding that many sizes and manufacturers of construction equipment exist, and every piece is similar, yet different in controls and sometimes how they handle. True Knowledge and experience are gathered on the job while completing tasks at the worksite. Driver Training Excellence is a main priority, and our instructors have the passion, knowledge, and desire to help all our students. Being one of only four licensed Commercial Driver Training schools south of Calgary we are always busy with New Drivers. Safety Connections is the only provider in Alberta with a contract to offer fully funded Commercial Driver Training for those on Employment Insurance (E.I.). We offer Class 1 MELT, Experience and Equivalency Class 1 MELT, and Class 3 driver training, Air Brakes (Q endorsed), ODA, Load Securement & many other Driver related courses, including Online Defensive Driving, which can reduce Demerits upon a passing mark at completion. While we are an “All Industry Training Provider” with a commitment to serving clients in education, healthcare, construction, agriculture, oil and gas, manufacturing, and transportation and most other industries in-between. Our location in Medicine Hat makes accessing our facilities both convenient and affordable, found within three Medicine Hat City Transit bus routes, while some do have a four-block walk, depending on where you are heading from. Parking is on the street next to the building & a small, shared parking lot to the side. Staff are well-trained to provide high-quality service. Instructors are Certified by Canadian Red Cross, Energy Safety Cananda, Alberta Transportation, Alberta Construction Safety Association, and the Forklift Training Institute of Canada. As well our instructors have been End-Users in the classes they lead. Success is the result of commitment to our Training Standards. From here, the support we have from Businesses and Private Clients has built to form trust & relationships to provide the training and services they require and depend upon. Allowing us to respond to the needs of the communities we serve by improving upon and expanding our services offered. Our repeat Students return for training because of our core principle: Excellence Without Compromise. We are also the Instructor Development Centre for the Canadian Red Cross South of Calgary. Meet our nominee, Janice Kirchner!

Janice Kirchner is the Co-Owner of Safety Connections, a thriving business with a distinguished 25-year history in training and development within the oil and gas, light equipment operation, and commercial driving industries. Since taking over all aspects of the business two years ago, Janice has successfully navigated the complexities of ownership and management, all while fostering a culture rooted in teamwork and empowerment. Her adeptness in writing government proposals has resulted in substantial funding, including a recent $1.7 million contract dedicated to providing vital training opportunities for Albertans seeking their Class 1 licence.

Janice is renowned for her commitment to mentorship and community engagement. Training Instructors for the Canadian Red Cross and participating on several boards, including the Medicine Hat Construction Association and the Alberta Construction Safety Association, she leverages her expertise to support and uplift others. Through her teaching initiatives, such as the Home Alone Course and the Babysitter Course, she also positively influences the next generation, instilling confidence and skill in youth across her community.

Janice embodies the qualities of an effective leader through her honesty, integrity, and humility. She believes in the power of collaboration and relational leadership, consistently fostering open and meaningful connections with colleagues and peers. Her dedication to empowering others and nurturing a strong team spirit makes her an inspiring figure within both her business and the community.
