We would like to give notice that, from now on, our funeral home will not be collecting and handling memorial donation money at funerals. Most funeral homes stopped the practice long ago, but we held out as long as possible as a convenience to the community. However, the time has come, and we’d like to outline issues with which we are constantly dealing:
1) when people fill out a donation envelope, sometimes they will accidentally write an amount on the envelope that differs from what they inserted, causing an issue when they are sent a receipt for less than they thought they donated,
2) we have always held donations for a time before sending them to the charity in case others trickle in, but, inevitably, as soon as we do send them, more come in causing us to make another submission,
3) when an error occurs or a person doesn’t receive a receipt within their expected time frame, they come to us expecting it was an error on our part and want us to make good on it, and
4) the administration time and postage to prepare and send in the donations is an expense for us that we are unable to recover.
Although we will no longer be collecting donations, we will continue to facilitate donations through our website and will provide information at funerals as to how people can make their donations directly to the selected charities as easily as possible.
We hope that people can appreciate the reasons for this change, and if anyone has questions at a funeral about making a donation, our staff members will be most willing to assist.
Thank you for your understanding.
