🐸💚This week’s Rise From the Pond Youth Recovery Group was all about the masks we wear. 💚🐸

This session invited our youth to get creative while exploring an important question:

Who do I show the world… and who am I underneath?

Using art, colours, words, symbols, and meaningful images, everyone began creating masks that represent both their outside self (what others see) and their inside self (the parts we often keep hidden).

Some of the questions we reflected on included:
✨ What emotions do I let others see?
✨ What worries do I carry?
✨ What strengths do I have that others may overlook?
✨ What dreams and goals do I keep to myself?
✨ What parts of myself am I protecting?

There was no right or wrong way to create these masks. Each one tells a different story, and it was amazing to see how unique and thoughtful everyone’s work became. ❤️

We’re not quite finished yet! In two weeks, we’ll complete our masks and spend time reflecting on what they mean, what we discovered about ourselves, and how this connects to healing, authenticity, and recovery.

Recovery isn’t just about changing our behaviours—it’s also about getting to know the person underneath the mask and learning that every part of our story deserves compassion.

I’m so proud of the courage and creativity these youth brought into the room today. I can’t wait to see the finished pieces and hear the reflections next session. 🌿

🌿 Rise From the Pond Recovery Group 🐸💚

Yes, a delayed post, but here it is! This week we spent some time doing a Cost-Benefit Analysis around cannabis use. 🌱

Together, we explored:
➡️ The benefits of continuing to smoke cannabis
➡️ The costs of continuing to smoke cannabis
➡️ The benefits of stopping cannabis use
➡️ The costs of stopping cannabis use

We also challenged ourselves to think about short-term (ST) versus long-term (LT) impacts. ⏳

One of the biggest takeaways from our discussion was noticing how many of the benefits of continuing were things that happen right now—like reducing stress, having fun, feeling calm, or escaping difficult emotions. ❤️‍🩹

But when we looked at the costs of continuing, most of them showed up in the long term—things like isolation, memory problems, impacts on physical health, feeling disconnected, changes in relationships, and missing out on ceremony. 🌿🪶

Then we flipped it around.

Stopping cannabis came with some very real short-term challenges like cravings, stress, anxiety, sadness, and learning new coping skills. Those aren’t easy, and it’s important to acknowledge that. 💛

But when we looked at the long-term benefits, the list just kept growing…
✨ More freedom
✨ Better health
✨ More energy
✨ More money
✨ Feeling grounded and connected
✨ Better hygiene
✨ Pride in yourself
✨ Feeling present
✨ Stronger relationships

There wasn’t a “right” or “wrong” answer in this activity. The goal wasn’t to tell anyone what they should do—it was about creating space to be curious, think critically, and recognize that every choice has both costs and benefits. 🌱

Watching everyone contribute their own experiences and insights made for some incredibly thoughtful conversations. These are the moments where growth happens. Even though participants were shy to use their voice, we found a solution of writing their answers down on paper and then throwing it up on the board💚

Thank you to everyone who showed up, shared honestly, and supported one another. I’m so proud of this group and the courage it takes to have these conversations. 🐸💚

📣💙 Youth Recovery Group Update 💙📣

⏸️ Our Youth Recovery Group will be on hold for the next two weeks while we explore ways to make the program even more accessible and convenient for participants.

We’re currently looking at:

📅 Different days of the week, as Wednesdays have become a busy time for many youth and community organizations.

🏡 Different venue options to help reduce travel barriers and improve accessibility.

🌱 Our goal is to create a welcoming and supportive space where youth can connect, learn, heal, and grow.

🙏 Thank you for your patience, understanding, and continued support. We can’t wait to share more updates with you soon!

📣✨ Youth Recovery Group Update ✨📣

💙 We wanted to let everyone know that our Youth Recovery Group will be on hold for the next two weeks while we take some time to explore ways to better meet the needs of the youth and families we serve.

🌱 Over the past several months, we’ve noticed that Wednesdays can be a busy day, with many community events, activities, and programs being offered throughout the community. Because of this, we are looking at the possibility of moving the group to a different day of the week 📅 to make it easier for more youth to attend.

🚗 We are also exploring different venue options 🏡 to help reduce travel barriers and make participation more convenient and accessible for everyone.

🎯 Our goal is to create a program that is:
✨ Welcoming
✨ Accessible
✨ Supportive
✨ Youth-focused
✨ Easy to attend

🤝 We truly value the feedback, support, and commitment of the youth, families, and communities we work with. Thank you for your patience as we take this time to ensure the program continues to grow in a way that best supports everyone involved.

💜 We look forward to sharing updates soon and reconnecting with everyone in the near future!

🌿 Take care of yourselves and each other. 🌿

Today in our Youth Recovery Group, the youth will be creating vision boards 🌱✨

Vision boards are a creative way to explore hopes, goals, values, healing, and the future they want to build for themselves. Through art, reflection, and connection, youth will have the opportunity to express who they are, where they’ve been, and where they want to go.

Recovery is not just about stopping harmful behaviours — it’s also about reconnecting with purpose, identity, community, and dreams for the future. We’re excited to see the creativity and strength that comes forward in today’s session 💛
