Some people have a way of making their community a little brighter, and for the residents and staff at Bayfield House, Gord Bird is one of them.

The Jarlette Health Services Making A Difference Awards recognize a resident in each of our Retirement Lodges and Long-Term Care Homes who has made an outstanding contribution to their community throughout their lifetime, whether within their residence or beyond its doors.

Bayfield House Retirement Lodge is proud to honour Gord as this year’s recipient.

From helping restart the Purple Hills Art Society and rebuild the Creemore Train Station to volunteering with the Winter Special Olympics, Gord has generously shared his time and talents with so many.

At Bayfield House, that spirit continues through his participation in fundraising events and his renditions of “You Are My Sunshine” for fellow residents in the dining room.

Congratulations, Gord. Thank you for the many ways you make a difference!

On September 30, we join communities across Canada in observing Orange Shirt Day and the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. We honour residential school Survivors, remember the children who never returned home, and recognize the lasting impacts on Indigenous families and communities.

As a Canadian family-owned and operated organization, we reflect on the responsibility each generation holds to understand our shared history and help shape a more respectful future.

That responsibility begins with listening to Indigenous voices, learning the truths of residential schools and allowing that understanding to inform our actions and relationships.
