Blessed Beltane: As we contemplate the beautiful mysteries of Beltane individually or collectively, let us give love and praise to trees, the columns that unite the sky (the source of life's animation), the underworld (the source of life's coherence) and the surface world (the source of life's expression) here on this sacred location of our current life (earth, the mother/matter of life for us). The weaving circular dance around the maypole is a reminder that life has the green world as its center. In addition to producing ozone, the plants and trees are the bridge of life that supplies the matter we need to stay material. They take the broken down constituents of life and express wood, fruit, vegetables etc that we eat to stay formed. They move the ancestral from the earth into the bountiful that feeds. They also weave light (energy and animation) from the sun and the nutritional data, vitamins (vita or life and minus or little= little life) into what we must consume to exist in this world. It is life (light) and it's supple movement (water) that keeps it fresh and moving. As you walk or move around on the surface of earth, you are traversing the skin of your greater body. During this Beltane time, remember this Our human life revolves around a presence and a function that is far older than our species...the plants and trees. Honor each as an expression of the center post of life. Raise your arms to the heavens in gratitude for the ever arriving life. Sing songs to the waters that sustain us. Praise to the air, the gift of the green that gives us breath. It is a privilege to participate in it, on it and through it. As the late Fiona Macleod wrote in their poem "Green fire of joy. Green fire of life, be with thou through the stress and strife. Be with thou through the shadow and shine- the immortal ichor, the immortal wine. Rejoice, rejoice in the green fire of life. Drink deep of the immortal life and rejoice in the green fire of Life.. May these thoughts uphold, sustain and enhance your well-being in this life and more to come.
