Pelvic health IS for ALL aspects of health: mental health, emotional health, social health, physical health and beyond!!

BOTTOM LINE: Mamas, book the appointment with your pelvic health physio!

Here’s why it matters:
- scar tissue forms with EVERY Birth - vaginal or c-section. Treating it early can help prevent issues right now and later on
- postpartum treatment is often more effective after birth than during the next pregnancy. Pregnancy care sometimes shifts towards symptom management rather than full resolution.
- Research consistently dictates that pelvic floor muscle training postpartum reduces the risk of urinary incontinence and pelvic organ prolapse
- mild symptoms are still symptoms. “It’s only a few dribbles” “I just don’t jump too much anymore” “it doesn’t bother me enough yet” are all signs your body is trying to get your attention! Progression to moderate or severe symptoms are harder to manage- both physically and emotionally.
- postpartum recovery effects more than your physical health. Your emotional, mental and social wellbeing all influence motherhood- and your baby benefits too!
- Research is clear: postpartum physical activity and exercise are essential for: pelvic health, metabolic health, cardiovascular health, and more
- exercise/physical activity postpartum is rooted in pelvic health - connected to a better quality sleep!
- Birth is a MAJOR injury! Rehab is a requirement for recovery
- if I had a toonie for every patient in perimenopause who told me: “I wish someone had told me to see a pelvic health physio after having babies” - I’d likely be close to retirement!
- your menstrual cycle can shift postpartum! Period pain, cramping, heaviness, bleeding 🩸 patterns , etc and can all be influenced by your birth and postpartum recovery!

Your body deserves support post birth - not just survival mode!

This is MY postpartum... 🤍

THEN…
I used to go to the gym 3–4 times a week. I used to run 5km before my day even started.

And then… I joined motherhood.

NOW…
18 minutes of self-directed exercise on a Friday night, with a play kitchen in the vicinity, making sure I’m BREATHING through my descent, mentally visualizing the monthly calendar so I don’t forget anyone’s weekend plans, all while trying to entertain my toddler.

Definitely not perfect; but powerful all at the same time!

POINT…
I hear you and I see you Mama's! I know it feels like there’s no time to exercise, and trust me, I recognize that feeling deeply.

But just because things look different doesn’t mean they aren’t worthwhile.

Health-promoting self-care is ESSENTIAL to motherhood. Not just for you, but for your CHILDREN too!

The 2025 Canadian guideline for physical activity, sedentary behaviour, and sleep throughout the first year postpartum highlights evidence-based recommendations including walking, muscular strengthening exercise, and pelvic floor muscle training. These support LARGE improvements in:
✨ Mental health
✨ Pelvic floor health
✨ Musculoskeletal health
✨ Cardiovascular health
✨ Reduced fatigue

Even small “exercise snacks” have been shown to be beneficial in this season of life.

Mamas — I can’t make this up!

Pregnancy is life-changing. Raising children is all-encompassing. And being a woman is just plain tough!

The behaviours I build now are helping optimize my transition into perimenopause later — because distress and suffering should not be the expectation. Realizing, I just have to learn to be okay with a new normal!

If you’re lacking confidence or direction, feel free to reach out, mama. I’m truly one of your biggest fans. 🤍

This moment right here IS pure joy! 💛

Reading messages from mama’s who absolutely crush their birth goals: a vaginal birth, minimal to no tearing, pain well managed and/or feeling strong and supported postpartum. I couldn’t be more proud!

To all the mamas I’ve had the privilege of working with - being apart of your birth prep journey is something I never take for granted. Your updates mean the world to me….. and they truly make my day EVERY SINGLE TIME. ✨
