When a child is struggling with sound sensitivity or misophonia, a common question is what you can actually do at home to help.👂

A big part of it is creating an environment that feels more manageable. That might include things like quiet spaces for breaks, allowing headphones during meals or triggering situations, and reducing pressure when a child is already overwhelmed.

How reactions are handled also matters. These responses to sound are often beyond a child's control in the moment, so staying calm and supportive can make a real difference over time. Many families also find it helpful to build a shared understanding so the child doesn’t feel “wrong” for reacting the way they do.

Support can look different depending on the child.

If this is showing up at home, it’s worth reaching out so we can take a closer look!

Some sounds don’t just annoy kids; they completely take over.🫨

We see children who are fine one minute, and then suddenly overwhelmed by something as small as chewing, sniffing, or a repetitive noise. The reaction isn’t subtle either. It can look like anger, panic, or needing to leave right away.

From the outside, it can be confusing. But for that child, it feels intense and very real.

This is something called misophonia, and it can have a big impact on everyday life, especially at school or even just sitting down for a meal at home.👂🏾

A lot of families aren’t sure what they’re seeing at first, or where to even start.

If this is something you’ve been noticing, it’s worth looking into. We work with children and families to understand what’s going on and help make those situations feel more manageable.🥰

If you’re not sure what you’re seeing, please reach out today!💜

Reading and writing shape how a child experiences school, not just academically, but emotionally too.📖📚

When these skills don’t come easily, they can quietly affect confidence, motivation, and a child's willingness to participate or try new things.

We use structured, evidence-based literacy approaches grounded in the science of reading, including Orton-Gillingham, a well-established method for building strong, lasting reading skills.🥰

Reading development is also closely tied to how children process language and sound. Because of that, we often consider the full picture when addressing literacy challenges.

Struggles with reading are never about effort or intelligence. They’re about needing the right tools and approach.

With the right support, reading can shift from something stressful to something that finally starts to click. Reach out anytime for support!💜

Hearing is one of those things that quietly shapes everything for a child, how they speak, how they learn, and how they connect with the world.👂🏾

Sometimes the signs are subtle at first: not always responding when their name is called, needing things repeated, sitting closer to the TV, or seeming a bit behind with speech and language. Other times, it shows up at school, with difficulty following instructions or appearing distracted.

We provide gentle, child-friendly hearing assessments designed to make the process feel calm and comfortable.

If you’ve had even a small question in the back of your mind, it’s worth getting clarity. Reach out anytime.😊💜

Not sure what speech therapy actually looks like? You’re not alone.

Most parents come in feeling a little unsure of what to expect, and honestly, that’s completely normal. Our goal is to make everything feel clear, supportive, and actually helpful from the start.☺

Here’s what it looks like:

✨ Pre-assessment
You fill out questionnaires about your child’s communication and development

✨ Consultation
We talk through your concerns and your child’s history

✨ Tailored evaluation
We choose the assessments based on your child and what’s going on for them

✨ Clear next steps
You leave with a detailed plan and practical recommendations you can actually use

If you’ve been thinking about getting support but keep putting it off, this is your sign🥰

Every child deserves to be understood.🗣

When communication is hard, it shows up everywhere, making friends, learning at school, and even just sharing their day. And it can be frustrating for everyone.

Our team can help children build the skills to communicate clearly, connect, and feel confident.☺️

Signs to watch for:
– Hard to understand (even for family)
– Leaves out or substitutes sounds (“wabbit” for “rabbit”)
– Trouble with sentences or finding words
– Doesn’t understand instructions for their age
– Gets frustrated trying to communicate
– Quieter than peers or avoids speaking
– Stuttering or difficulty getting words out
– Late to start talking

If this sounds like your child, early support can make all the difference!🥰

Ever notice how some kids can read words but still feel unsure about how they work?

Reading isn’t just about sounding things out; it’s about understanding patterns, meaning, and how words are built.📚

That’s where Structured Word Inquiry (SWI) comes in. Instead of memorizing words, we help kids explore why words look the way they do.

Here’s what that looks like in practice👉

📚 Words are connected
Many English words share common roots and patterns. Once kids start noticing them, reading becomes more predictable.

📚 Words have structure
Prefixes, suffixes, and base words all work together to build meaning, and once you see them, words start to “unpack” themselves.

📚 Reading becomes about meaning, not guessing.
When kids understand how words are built, they rely less on memorization and more on real understanding.

The goal isn’t just to read words, it’s to understand them. And once that clicks, reading starts to feel a lot more confident and a lot less frustrating🥰

“Will my child ever talk?”🤔

We hear this question a lot, and we completely understand where it comes from. It’s love, worry, and hope all wrapped into one.🥰

The truth is, there isn’t one simple answer. Every child develops communication in their own way and in their own time.

What we do know is this: we never write a child off, and we never focus on “won’t.” We focus on understanding where they are right now and helping them move forward from there.🗣

For some children, that means building spoken words.
For others, it’s clearer speech, stronger understanding, or finding ways to communicate that feel easier and less frustrating.

Progress isn’t one straight line. It’s small steps, shifts, and moments that build over time, and every single one matters.🧩

If this is something you’ve been wondering about, you don’t have to figure it out alone. We’re here to help you understand what’s going on and what the next step could look like💜

What parents usually notice first (before they ever book speech therapy)…

👉 Most families don’t start with a clear “this is a speech issue.”
It usually shows up in small, everyday moments that start to raise questions.

Parents often tell us things like:
• “I understand everything my child is saying, but other people don’t.”
• “They can talk, but their stories don’t really make sense or jump around a lot.t”
• “They get really frustrated when I ask them to explain what happened.”
• “They use pointing, gestures, or one-word answers more than I expected for their age.”
• “They seem quieter or less confident when talking with other kids.”
• “Their teacher mentioned they don’t really join in conversations at school.l”

And the thing is, these moments can be easy to brush off at first.

But they’re often the earliest signs that it might be worth checking in on how communication is developing.🗣

Early support doesn’t mean something is “wrong.” It just means giving your child the tools to feel more confident and understood.🌟

If any of this sounds familiar, trust that instinct and book an assessment with us.💜

Play isn’t just fun, it’s one of the most powerful ways kids build language and early literacy skills!🗣🧩

When children play, they’re naturally connecting words to what they see, do, and experience every day. That’s where the magic happens.🌟

For example, if your child is playing with a pretend kitchen, you might say, “You’re stirring the soup!” or “Let’s add some carrots to the pot.” Simple, everyday moments like this help expand vocabulary in a way that feels effortless and engaging.💜

👉Looking for easy ideas to try?
• Go on an “Around the House Scavenger Hunt” and name what you find
• Play “action games” where toys jump, hide, or sleep
• Narrate what your child is doing as they play

These little interactions add up in a big way. Every playful moment is a chance to build language, spark curiosity, and support their development, no flashcards required.😄
