Yesterday, Christina, our Recruitment & Engagement Coordinator, was joined by our Lead CAREGiver, Kelly, to represent Home Instead at the A1 Global College PSW Job Fair!

Graduates had the opportunity to connect face-to-face with 10+ leading healthcare employers, bypassing the digital application process and speaking directly with recruiters looking for talented, compassionate individuals.

Christina and Kelly had a wonderful day meeting aspiring healthcare professionals and connecting with people who share our passion for making a difference in the lives of others. Thank you to A1 Global College for hosting this great opportunity to connect with the next generation of caregivers!

Supporting older adults starts with understanding their mental health. đź’š

Dan Gallagher from our Mississauga office delivered an Understanding Mental Health in Aging Adults presentation to the staff at Amica Erin Mills, helping them recognize signs and symptoms that may indicate a resident needs additional support.

The Mental Health Commission of Canada’s guidelines identify depression as affecting as many as 1 in 5 older adults—highlighting the importance of awareness and early recognition.

The presentation focused on recognizing changes in mood, behavior and daily routines, encouraging compassionate conversations, and helping connect residents with appropriate support.

Thank you to the team at Amica Erin Mills for welcoming Dan and making mental wellness part of the conversation. Home Instead is proud to support community education that helps older adults feel heard, valued and cared for.

First Aid training is important, but that doesn’t mean it can’t be fun, especially when a franchise owner crashes the party!

Recently, Brenda stopped by our Mississauga office and spent some time with our CAREGivers as they took part in First Aid training led by our amazing Recruitment & Engagement Coordinator, Mikeala, alongside St. John Ambulance.

For some of our CAREGivers, this was a refresher course after more than 10 years with Home Instead. It’s a great reminder that no matter how much experience you have, there’s always value in refreshing your skills, learning something new, and making sure you’re prepared to provide the best possible care.

We’re proud of our CAREGivers for continuing to invest in their knowledge and skills, and grateful to Mikeala and St. John Ambulance for helping make learning both valuable and enjoyable!

Dan Gallagher from our Home Instead Mississauga office recently had the pleasure of presenting an Infection Control for Seniors workshop to the residents of Amica Credit Mills.

Dan shared practical, everyday ways to help reduce the spread of germs and viruses, including regular handwashing, cleaning frequently touched surfaces, and staying in their suites when feeling unwell. These simple steps can make a meaningful difference and help residents look out for one another while supporting a healthier community.

We always appreciate the opportunity to share helpful information that can support older adults in staying healthy and well.

Amica Credit Mills is such a warm and welcoming community, and it was wonderful to see the care shown by their team and the genuine connections among residents. Thank you for welcoming Dan and Home Instead into your community!

There’s more to the Iowa State Fair than corn dogs and butter sculptures—it is also a place for meaningful conversations. 🎡🌭

Dr. Lakelyn spent the day at the Home Instead booth talking with fairgoers about aging, caregiving and the many ways families can find support.

One conversation that will stay with her was with Marv, who cared for his late wife, Sharon. He shared how meaningful Home Instead’s support was for them—a powerful reminder that care can make a real difference for both the person receiving it and the family member beside them.

She also stopped by the Iowa Department of Transportation booth to talk about one of the harder caregiving conversations: driving. Starting early, leading with empathy and focusing on safety can help make the conversation feel less like taking something away and more like supporting independence.
