Today we celebrate the seniors in our lives - their stories, their laughter, their years of experience, and the quiet strength they bring to our families and communities every single day.

To every senior we have the privilege of supporting: thank you for trusting us with your care. You inspire us more than you know.

Some of the most meaningful moments in caregiving aren’t the big tasks; they’re the quiet ones. A shared cup of tea. A favourite song on the radio. A familiar face stopping by just to chat.

At Everest, we believe connection is care. If someone in your life could use a little extra company this week, we’re here to help.

5 signs it’s time to call in help, before a crisis forces the decision ⚠️

1️⃣ Missed medications or doubled-up doses
2️⃣ Unexplained bruises or falls “they don’t remember”
3️⃣ Weight loss or spoiled food in the fridge
4️⃣ Skipped showers or the same outfit for days
5️⃣ You’re exhausted, guilty, and Googling “how do I know when it’s time” at 2 AM

If you counted even one, that’s your sign. It doesn’t mean nursing home; it means support at home, on your terms.

Save and share with someone quietly carrying this alone. 🤍

🤔 "Do we need home health care or home care?" We get this question constantly, and the difference matters more than most families realize.

Home Care (Companion Care):
Helps with daily living - meal prep, light housekeeping, transportation, companionship.

Home Health Care:
Skilled, often medically necessary care - think wound care, medication management, post-hospital recovery, therapy services, and nursing oversight.

Choosing the wrong one can leave a real care gap. If you're not sure which your loved one needs, that's exactly the kind of question we love helping families answer.

If you're the one doing the meds, the appointments, the meal prep, AND the emotional labor, you're not alone. The "sandwich generation" is real, and nobody warns you how heavy it gets.

You don't have to carry it all. A little extra help at home can be the difference between burnout and balance.

Sometimes the signs are quiet. 🧡

A skipped meal. A missed pill. A bruise no one can explain.

These aren’t “just aging”, they might be your parent gently telling you they need a little more support.

You don’t need all the answers today. You just need to notice and ask.

💬 Reach out and we’ll help you figure out the next step - no pressure, just support.

Falls don't often happen out of nowhere; they're usually the result of a few small risk factors adding up. But most are easy to address.

Our Falls Prevention Tips graphic breaks it down into 10 simple steps families can start today, from better lighting and non-slip footwear to grab bars, vision checks, and medication reviews with the care team.

A few worth highlighting:

• Keep hallways and rooms well-lit, and clear away throw rugs
• Install grab bars and use a shower chair for bathing
• Book regular, dilated eye exams
• Ask your doctor if any medications (even over-the-counter ones) might cause dizziness

Helping a loved one stay steady on their feet is one of the simplest ways to protect their independence at home.

🏥 Bringing a loved one home after surgery? The first two weeks matter more than most families expect.

Watch for these signs that recovery isn't going as smoothly as it should:
🔸 Increased confusion or unusual drowsiness
🔸 Wound that's red, swollen, or draining
🔸 Difficulty managing new medications
🔸 Reluctance or inability to move/walk as instructed
🔸 Skipped meals or sudden weight loss

A smooth recovery often depends on consistent, skilled support in those early days, not just once-a-week check-ins.

If you have a loved one facing surgery soon, reach out to us about what post-op support could look like.

☀️ Summer heat isn't just uncomfortable for older adults; it can be dangerous.

Seniors are more vulnerable to heat-related illness because their bodies don't regulate temperature as efficiently, and many medications increase that risk further.

Watch for these warning signs in your loved one:
🔸 Confusion or dizziness
🔸 Excessive sweating, or none at all
🔸 Rapid heartbeat
🔸 Skin that feels hot and dry, or cool and clammy
🔸 Nausea or headache

If you notice any of these, get them somewhere cool and hydrated right away, and don't hesitate to call their doctor.

Our caregivers are trained to spot these signs early and help families stay ahead of them. If you're worried about a loved one this summer, reach out to us.
