Luso Canadian Charitable Society is a non profit charitable organization as of August 3, 2003. We provide support services to adults with developmental and/or physical disabilities allowing much needed temporary relief for families/caregivers while providing a safe, nurturing environment and a sense of well-being. Since our organization does not receive any ongoing government funding, we heavily r

ely on the generosity of our community for support to continue fulfilling our commitment of providing quality programs and services to all persons with disabilities.

Peel participants had an incredible afternoon learning about and interacting with all different kinds of animals when Hands on Exotics Toronto visited the Centre! They learned about the life cycles and habits of different species, from bunnies to snakes to birds, and then had the opportunity to engage with them under the guidance of the facilitator.

The team at Hands On Exotics did a phenomenal job of tailoring the experience to our participants so everyone could take part. Thank you for bringing your knowledge, expertise, and of course, your amazing animals to Luso!

As always, there are lots of exciting happenings across our Luso Centres!

At Luso Toronto, participants enjoyed learning all about fire safety and firefighting from Toronto Fire Services! Firefighters came to Luso to give participants a tour of the firetruck, including all of its many capabilities. They also gave a demonstration on what steps to take in an emergency and everything they do to help keep our communities safe.

Thank you to Toronto Fire Services for the incredible educational experience!

In Hamilton, participants are squeezing every last bit out of summer with Outdoor Week! They took some time to craft their very own camping set up, including a canoe made with real wood & a campfire, trees, and even their very own banjo made with cardboard and craft paper.

They also experimented with colours to tie dye their own unique Luso t-shirts, just like you would at summer camp. What a great way to use their creative energy & keep the summer feeling alive as autumn approaches!

Luso Hamilton participants had an amazing time at a bread making workshop hosted by Paulo Ferreira, owner of OLA Bakery & Pastries

During the workshop, participants learned how to prepare dough using an electric mixer before putting their new skills into practice. They enjoyed kneading, shaping, and creating their very own Portuguese buns from scratch. It was an educational and delicious experience for everyone!

Ola Bakery has been a longtime supporter and sponsor of Luso, generously donating both time and resources to enrich the lives of our participants. We are immensely grateful for their continued generosity, community spirit, and commitment to empowering individuals with disabilities.

We look forward to continuing and expanding our partnership with Ola Bakery to create even more meaningful opportunities and experiences for our participants in the future.

Participants from Luso Support Centres Peel and Toronto continue to benefit from meaningful community experiences made possible through the support of charitable gaming initiatives facilitated by OLG and local gaming house partnerships.

Funding received through RAMA Gaming House & Dolphin Gaming House helps Luso provide recreational opportunities, such as visits to museums and conservation areas, as well as hands-on experiences that promote social connection and community participation for the individuals we support across our Centres.

Luso was honoured to welcome MPP of Milton Zee Hamid for a visit at our Peel Centre this summer!

MPP Hamid toured the Centre, meeting with Luso participants, staff & management, observing the day program that our Luso participants take part in, and learning about Luso’s mission, history, and future goals.

At Luso, we are working to move forward in creating a more inclusive and accessible world for all those with disabilities. We are so grateful to have incredible support from our government representatives, like MPP Hamid, to assist us in achieving this objective.

There are tons of exciting activities happening at Luso Toronto this summer! Participants had an amazing time during a painting workshop, where they spent the afternoon combining their creative talents and working together to make lovely banners to hang in the Centre.

Participants also enjoyed a fun & engaging puppet show hosted by Toyland Puppets. We are so grateful to have incredible organizational partners who are here to support and delight our participants, providing them with enjoyable new experiences and lasting memories!

Huge thank you to Kerry, Mom to Luso Hamilton participant Kira, and founder of The Chocolate Doctor, for visiting Hamilton & Peel Centres to host a chocolate workshop! Participants had an incredible time making treats, from chocolate-dipped cookies to chocolate bark with their own customized toppings. What a wonderful way to spend an afternoon, learning a new skill and getting a sweet snack as a reward!
