Not all “low back pain” necessarily starts in the low back.

Your sacroiliac—or SI—joints sit where your spine and pelvis meet. These small joints help transfer weight between your upper and lower body and play an important role every time you stand, walk, or climb stairs.

When an SI joint becomes irritated, you may feel discomfort around the low back, buttock, or hip, which is why it matters to identify where your pain is actually coming from.

Persistent low back pain? Let’s take a closer look.

Sometimes one of the best things you can do for your back is also one of the simplest: go for a walk.

Regular walking keeps your body moving, engages the muscles that support your spine, and helps maintain mobility and posture. And because it’s low impact, it’s an activity many people can continue throughout their lives.

You don’t need a complicated workout to do something good for your spine. A few more steps today are a pretty good place to start.

Foot pain doesn’t always stay in your feet.

The way your feet support your body can influence how you walk, stand, and move, and that can have a ripple effect on your ankles, knees, hips, and even your lower back.

If you’re dealing with recurring discomfort, it may be worth looking at what’s happening from the ground up. Custom orthotics are designed specifically for your feet to provide better support and help improve overall alignment.
Ask us if a custom orthotic assessment may be right for you.

Sometimes the body needs a little extra help getting through the healing process.
Laser therapy uses specific wavelengths of light to stimulate activity within the tissues. It can be used to help reduce pain and inflammation, improve circulation, and support tissue repair—all without injections or downtime.

It’s one of the non-invasive treatment options we offer at Dixie Dundas to help patients recover, move more comfortably, and get back to the things they enjoy.
Curious whether laser therapy could help you? Ask us at your next visit.

We tend to notice our spine when something hurts. But on an ordinary day, it’s quietly doing a pretty remarkable job.

Your spine helps you bend, twist, and move. It provides structure and balance. It protects your spinal cord and creates pathways for the nerves carrying messages between your brain and the rest of your body.

In other words, a healthy spine matters long before back pain enters the picture.
Regular Chiropractic can be one part of helping you maintain mobility, function, and an active lifestyle—at every age.

Think you know chiropractic? Here are three facts that may surprise you.

🎓 Becoming a chiropractor in Canada requires at least seven years of postsecondary education.

📚 Chiropractic students complete more than 4,200 hours of specialized education and clinical training.

âś… Graduates must pass national examinations and meet provincial licensing requirements before they can practise.

Their education includes subjects such as anatomy, physiology, neurology, biomechanics, diagnostic imaging, clinical diagnosis, and hands-on treatment methods.

Chiropractic is also a regulated healthcare profession. In Ontario, chiropractors are regulated by the College of Chiropractors of Ontario, which establishes professional and clinical standards designed to protect the public.

There is far more education, examination, and regulation behind the title “Doctor of Chiropractic” than many people realize.

Chiropractic has evolved, and today’s approach involves much more than simply treating the spot that hurts.

Modern chiropractic begins with listening. A chiropractor reviews your health history, discusses your symptoms and goals, and performs an appropriate physical assessment. This information helps determine what may be contributing to your discomfort and whether chiropractic care is suitable for you.

Depending on your individual needs, a care plan may include hands-on treatment, mobility work, therapeutic exercise, posture or ergonomic guidance, and education to help you better understand and manage your condition. Other services may also be incorporated when appropriate.

The goal is not to give every patient the same treatment. It is to create a personalized, evidence-informed approach focused on function, movement, and the activities that matter to you.

Chiropractic in Canada has come a long way over the past century.

In 1923, Alberta became the first Canadian province to pass legislation regulating chiropractic. Ontario followed with provincial regulation in 1925. Another important milestone arrived in 1945 with the founding of the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College in Toronto.

Today, chiropractic is a regulated healthcare profession in every Canadian province. Chiropractors must complete extensive education, pass national examinations and meet the licensing requirements of the province in which they practise.

What began as a relatively new approach to musculoskeletal care has grown into a recognized profession focused on the assessment, diagnosis and management of conditions involving the spine, muscles, joints and nervous system.

That is more than a century of progress, and the profession continues to evolve.

October is National Chiropractic Month!

This month, we’re celebrating the important role that healthy muscles, joints, and movement play in our everyday lives.

Your musculoskeletal system helps you walk, bend, work, exercise, and take part in the activities that make life enjoyable. When pain, stiffness, or an injury disrupts that movement, chiropractic may help identify the underlying mechanical problem and support your recovery.

Throughout October, we’ll be sharing more about the history and evolution of chiropractic in Canada, the education behind the profession, and some things you may not know about today’s chiropractic care.

Here’s to moving better, feeling stronger!
