Tips for Traveling Safely this Summer with Your Ponto 🛂

When travelling with a bone anchored hearing system like the Ponto, there are a few things to consider:
✔️ Bring the Ponto Implant Card with you and inform airport security that you have an implanted device prior to passing through security. The TSA agent will also advise on whether you may keep the sound processor on, or not. If needed, you can download a spare implant card from our website.
✔️ When travelling by plane, turn on the flight mode on the sound processor to disable Bluetooth(R) during take-off and landings.
✔️ If you would like to watch movies or listen to music, be sure to have extra batteries and accessories readily available.

Caring for your Ponto sound processor and abutment in the summer heat 💦

Whether you're travelling or enjoying the sunshine at home, here are a few simple tips to keep your hearing system in top shape:
☀️ Exposing your implant and abutment to high temperatures may cause heating of the implant/abutment area. If you experience this, cool the area and avoid the heat source.
☀️ The sound processor must never be exposed to extreme heat, for example, left inside a parked car in the sun, and it must not be dried in microwave ovens or other ovens.
☀️ If you are visiting or living in an area with high humidity, place your sound processor in a drying tube every night. If you are in need of a drying tube, consult your healthcare professional.
☀️ Always disconnect the sound processor before showering or bathing/swimming. If the sound processor accidentally gets wet, open the battery drawer, remove the battery, and let the sound processor dry.
☀️ When being very active or sweating profusely, it is important to keep the area around the abutment clean and dry

Born with single-sided deafness, Karina Théorêt from Canada found that Ponto 5 Mini offered a hearing solution that aligned well with what she was looking for.

We’re pleased to share the story of Jamison McClellan, a Sentio™ 1 Mini user from the United States who was born with microtia and atresia.
For most of his life, Jamison used a bone anchored hearing device on a headband. After receiving the Sentio™ System, he describes the sound as clearer for him, as the implant is in direct contact with the skull.

One feature he particularly enjoys is the ability to stream audio directly to his Sentio 1 Mini: “I like that I can stream music to my Sentio, and my parents can’t hear it.”

Start your journey to better hearing!
Unlock the world of sound with Oticon Medical's advanced hearing solutions. Gaining a clear understanding of the stages involved in the Bone Anchored Hearing System (BAHS) journey can give you the confidence to make a well-informed decision when choosing to proceed with BAHS. Learn about the process:
🔸Evaluation: Your healthcare provider will assess if a bone anchored hearing solution (BAHS) is a suitable option for you
🔸Try it out: You will test a BAHS on a softband or headband and listen to the different sound environments in your daily life.
🔸Decide on treatment: Discuss and decide with your healthcare provider what the best solution is for you.
🔸Surgical procedure: The surgical procedure usually takes less than an hour. Depending on the implant type chosen, the procedure can take less than 15 minutes under local anaesthesia.
🔸Healing: Following the surgical procedure, you can resume your normal activities. 7-10 days after, the dressing will be removed from the implant site.
🔸Fitting of sound processor: Once fully healed, the sound processor is fitted by your audiologist and you can start to use it.
