“What if” thoughts keep us stuck in a loop. What if people get mad at me? What if I mess this up? What if someone says something?
Try this instead: even if.
Even if I mess it up, I can take accountability. I can tolerate the feeling that comes with it. And I can move forward.
This is called thought diffusion. Instead of ruminating and overthinking the “what if,” we zoom in and remind ourselves we have options.
Next time you catch yourself spiraling into “what if this happens” — pause. Say “even if” instead. See what options open up.
