If you are under the age of 55

🚽 peeing frequency should be 4-8 times in 24 hours OR per 3 hours (you should be able to sit through the movie Titanic 🚢 ...spoiler alert...it sinks)
🚽No peeing at night - you have hormones meant to calm the bladder overnight
🚽Urine the color of wheat 🌾 - pale yellow is the goal. Urine may be slightly darker if you’ve had a lot of salt or not enough water. This isn’t dangerous, however it is a good indicator of your level of hydration and may mean you should have a little more water. Some foods can also change the color - beets may make it pink. Call your doctor if urine is red, brown or cloudy as this could indicate bladder infection or irritation.
🚽There shouldn’t be leaking between visits to the toilet
🚽Peeing should be pain free
🚽Your stream should be strong and smooth. No stuttering.
🚽You should feel relief when done 😌

Over the age of 55

🚽peeing up to 8-10 times in 24 hours is acceptable
🚽1 to 2 night pees is okay in some circumstances
🚽urine should still be pale yellow
🚽The stream may weaken some but should still be smooth without pauses
🚽there shouldn’t be leaking between visits to the toilet💧
🚽Aging can contribute to urine leakage but should not be tolerated unless all treatment options have been tried, including pelvic floor physiotherapy to strengthen the muscles that hold urine in.
🚽Some surgeries can also contribute to urine leakage such as prostatectomy in which the prostate gland is removed.

**Always discuss urine leakage with your doctor AND pelvic floor physiotherapist to find a management solution.
