SNAP Family Center

SNAP Family Center The official page for the Centre Famille SNAP Family Center Boys and girls attend gender-specific weekly group sessions for 13 weeks.

SNAP®, which stands for Stop Now And Plan, is an evidence-based behavioural model that provides a framework for teaching children struggling with behaviour issues, and their parents, effective emotional regulation, self-control and problem-solving skills. SNAP helps troubled children and their parents learn how to effectively manage their emotions and "keep their problems small". Originally, the p

rogram was developed by Child Development Institute, an accredited children’s mental health organization in Toronto, in 1985 as an intervention program for boys under 12 in conflict with the law. Today: the gender-sensitive SNAP Boys and SNAP Girls programs are designed for children ages 6-11 who are engaging in aggressive, anti-social behaviour and/or have come into contact with authority figures at school or in the community. Children and families participate with the goal of preventing future anti-social behaviour and reducing the chances of conflict with family, peers and authority figure. They learn how to use SNAP in different situations through engaging activities, including discussions, role-playing and interactive games. A variety of topics are discussed such as: dealing with angry thoughts and feelings, self-control, problem-solving and bullying. The parent group meets concurrently with the SNAP boys/SNAP Girls groups. Parents learn effective child management and SNAP strategies. The group also provides parents with an opportunity to make connections with other parents facing similar challenges. We also offer:
*Individual child counseling/mentoring and community connections
*School advocacy/Teacher support
*SNAP Parenting - Family Counseling
*Crisis Intervention
*Long Term Connections and Continued Care

**All our services are free of charge**

☀️ What a wonderful day with our SNAP families and community!

Our Summer BBQ Picnic was filled with sunshine, delicious food, laughter, and connection. ✨

A huge thank you to the Station 3 police cadets, our socio-com Julie, and the Scouts for helping make the day so special for the kids. We’re also grateful to City Councillor Louise Leroux , MNA Brigitte B. Garceau , our community partners, and volunteers. We would also like to give a special thank you to the borough for the various free family excursion tickets they generously gifted to our families. 💛

And of course, thank you to all the families who joined us and made the afternoon so memorable. This is what community is all about!

🧡 Meet Julie Verdon 🧡

For Julie, SNAP isn’t just a program it’s part of her family’s story.

After seeing firsthand the positive impact SNAP had on her child and family, she chose to give back by joining our Board of Directors.

Today, Julie continues to support our mission so more families can access the same guidance, encouragement, and hope that made a difference in her own life.

We were pleased to welcome a representative of our local MP (Sameer Zuberi) from the Canada Summer Jobs program to SNAP Family Center! 💙

It was a wonderful opportunity to share our mission, highlight the work we’re doing to support children and families, and showcase the impact of meaningful youth employment in our community.

Thank you for taking the time to visit and learn more about our organization!

✨ At SNAP Family Center, our goal isn’t to control children’s behaviour, it’s to empower them with the skills to understand their emotions, make positive choices, and build confidence that lasts a lifetime. 💚

Every child has the potential to grow when they’re given the right tools, guidance, and support. That’s what empowerment looks like.

💙 Stop. Now. And Plan.
