SNAP Family Center

SNAP Family Center The official page for the Centre Famille SNAP Family Center Boys and girls attend gender-specific weekly group sessions for 13 weeks.

SNAP®, which stands for Stop Now And Plan, is an evidence-based behavioural model that provides a framework for teaching children struggling with behaviour issues, and their parents, effective emotional regulation, self-control and problem-solving skills. SNAP helps troubled children and their parents learn how to effectively manage their emotions and "keep their problems small". Originally, the p

rogram was developed by Child Development Institute, an accredited children’s mental health organization in Toronto, in 1985 as an intervention program for boys under 12 in conflict with the law. Today: the gender-sensitive SNAP Boys and SNAP Girls programs are designed for children ages 6-11 who are engaging in aggressive, anti-social behaviour and/or have come into contact with authority figures at school or in the community. Children and families participate with the goal of preventing future anti-social behaviour and reducing the chances of conflict with family, peers and authority figure. They learn how to use SNAP in different situations through engaging activities, including discussions, role-playing and interactive games. A variety of topics are discussed such as: dealing with angry thoughts and feelings, self-control, problem-solving and bullying. The parent group meets concurrently with the SNAP boys/SNAP Girls groups. Parents learn effective child management and SNAP strategies. The group also provides parents with an opportunity to make connections with other parents facing similar challenges. We also offer:
*Individual child counseling/mentoring and community connections
*School advocacy/Teacher support
*SNAP Parenting - Family Counseling
*Crisis Intervention
*Long Term Connections and Continued Care

**All our services are free of charge**

✨ At SNAP Family Center, our goal isn’t to control children’s behaviour, it’s to empower them with the skills to understand their emotions, make positive choices, and build confidence that lasts a lifetime. 💚

Every child has the potential to grow when they’re given the right tools, guidance, and support. That’s what empowerment looks like.

💙 Stop. Now. And Plan.

Grateful for mentors who make learning so meaningful. 🩷

One of the best parts of my journey at SNAP Family Center has been working alongside Dunia Darwiche. Her creativity, encouragement, and passion for helping others have inspired me every step of the way.

Through this experience, I’ve grown as a marketer, content creator, and storyteller. More importantly, I’ve learned the value of using those skills to make a positive impact.

Thank you, Dunia, for your guidance, support, and for making this journey so memorable. ✨

Some of our staff had the opportunity to attend the West Island Crisis Centre's Open House on July 9. It was a wonderful opportunity to learn more about the important services they provide, connect with their team, and tour their beautifully renovated facility. We also enjoyed a delicious BBQ in a warm and welcoming atmosphere. We are grateful for the opportunity to strengthen our community partnerships and gain a deeper appreciation of the valuable work they do.

Every big feeling starts somewhere. 💙

Thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are all connected. Helping children notice these connections can build self-awareness, emotional regulation, and confidence one small step at a time.

Save this post for a gentle reminder that every feeling is worth understanding. ✨

💚 Nothing speaks louder than the voices of our families.

Hearing parents share their experiences and the impact SNAP has had on their children reminds us why we do what we do. Thank you to every family who has trusted us to be part of their journey.

Your stories inspire us every day. 💚
